Doctoral student to premiere her first opera
Elysia Arntzen, a third-year Doctor of Musical Arts student at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music, will have her first-ever opera premiere – The Cask of Amontillado, on Saturday, March 31 at 7 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.
The Cask of Amontillado is a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. It’s about a man who gets revenge on another man, who has insulted him. The original story is only about five pages long, and it is unclear exactly what the two men were fighting about or who they are.

Prague Spring 50 concerts scheduled for April 4
LINCOLN, Neb.— A trio of University of Nebraska–Lincoln performance groups will play music by Czech composers in a 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 4 concert in Kimball Recital Hall. The concert, “Prague Spring 50: From Dvorak to Husa, and Beyond,” will feature the UNL Wind Ensemble, directed by Carolyn Barber; the University of Nebraska Faculty Brass Quintet; and the Chiara String Quartet with pianist Mark Clinton.

Follow the Baton: The Story of the Wagner Siegfried Idyll Baton
Many music-lovers know the famous story of Richard Wagner's birthday present to his beloved wife, Cosima – the performance of a new composition in the stairwell outside her bedroom on Christmas morning, 1870. Those scholars who have read Cosima's diary might also know that the baton Wagner used to conduct the ensemble was engraved by a local artisan to memorialize the event: the date of the performance inscribed along one face and the title of the work, Tribschener Idyll, along the opposite side.

One night coming for three Large Brass Ensemble performances
LINCOLN, Neb.— The Large Brass Ensembles within the Glenn Korff School of Music will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 2 in Kimball Recital Hall.
From the traditional “O Danny Boy” and “Down in the River” to more contemporary works like “Canterbury Flourish” and “The University of Nebraska March,” this recital promises to have something for everyone.

66 students chosen for Nebraska Young Artist Awards
Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has announced winners of the 21st annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.
The awards recognize 11th-grade students from Nebraska for talents in visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and new media. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.
Sixty-six students from more than 35 high schools across the state have been selected to participate in the special day of activities April 4 at the university.

April 6 college faculty meeting to include vote on proposed amendments to college bylaws
Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing will hold its spring faculty meeting on Friday, April 6 at 3:30 p.m., at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.
Included on the agenda is a vote on the proposed amendments to the college bylaws. This serves as notice of this public meeting to amend the college bylaws.

LINCOLN, Neb.— This University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Jazz Orchestra and Big Band “A View from the Side” performance at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 15 in Kimball Recital Hall will feature inventive arrangements of classic jazz standards as well as new works that will excite the listener through their inventive use of color, rhythm and harmony.
