calendar icon11 Apr 2013

The annual Evenings of Dance will be performed on April 11, 12, and 13 at 7:30 p.m., and again on Sunday, April 14 at 3:00 p.m. in the Lied Center's Johnny Carson Theatre.

General admission tickets are $12, faculty/staff $10, student/senior $7 and will be available approximately one hour before the performance at the door.

Evenings of Dance is the annual dance concert which presents new and repertory professional dance works by the UNL students and faculty. This year's concert brings works by contemporary New York City choreographers Alexandra Beller and Kendra Portier as well as the modern dance faculty, Noelle Bohaty, Jeff Curtis and Susan Levine.

Ms. Beller, who danced for Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company, and is the Artistic Director of Alexandra Beller/Dances, is known for her “provocative, political, powerful and radical work,” combining the most contemporary modern dance with theatrical elements.

Ms. Portier, who dances for David Dorfman Dance, says on her website that she is “…devoted to movement as an important and intrinsic aspect of being human.”

This year's concert has a blend of light and more weighty subject matter, ranging from biographical studies, work about gender, desire and love, and explorations of the inner world of the dancers. The evening will also feature a collaboration between Professor Levine, the UNL Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Professor Anthony Falcone, and the Senior Dance Majors.
