Glenn Korff School of Music announces Fall 2013 season

calendar icon22 Aug 2013

Highlighted by the UNL Opera production of Benjamin Britten's Albert Herring, two concerts in the Hixson-Lied Concert Series of the Chiara String Quartet, and the Cornhusker Marching Band Highlights Show at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, the Glenn Korff School of Music is excited to announce its Fall 2013 season.

Nearly 50 different performances will take place over the five-month period beginning in late August, including the UNL Faculty Brass Quintet on September 30 at 7:30 p.m., the UNL Faculty Jazz Ensemble on October 8 at 7:30 p.m., and the Moran Woodwind Quintet on November 17 at 3 p.m. All three performances are in Kimball Recital Hall.

“The Glenn Korff School of Music is now a place where composers and choreographers merge the vocabularies of classical, jazz, vernacular, and international styles to create new and important vistas of artistic confluence. It is a place to create, perform, and achieve,” said Glenn Korff School of Music Director Dr. John W. Richmond.

The Chiara String Quartet, Hixson-Lied Artists-in-Residence at the Glenn Korff School of Music, will present the six string quartets of Bela Bartok over two concerts. Both of the events will take place at the Kimball Recital Hall -- the first on October 14 at 7:30 p.m. and the second on November 14 at 7:30 p.m. The fall concerts are part of the year-long, four-concert Hixson-Lied Concert Series from the Chiara String Quartet. A four-ticket package is available that includes both the fall and spring concerts.

The Fall Opera, Albert Herring, will take place November 8 and 10 at the Kimball Recital Hall. Benjamin Britten’s gleeful comedy pokes fun at society’s mores in this delightful coming-of-age story. A pre-performance talk will take place in the lower level of Kimball Recital Hall 45 minutes before each performance.

And a great way to wrap up the fall-semester season is with the Cornhusker Marching Band Highlights Show at the Lied Center for Performing Arts on December 17 at 7:30 p.m. Come see the sights and hear the sounds of the Cornhusker Marching Band’s 2013 season. Experience each halftime show and the pre-game spectacular with the visual artistry of the color guard, twirlers and much more!

For advance ticket sales for these and other performances this fall, contact the Lied Center Box Office at (402) 472-4747.
