Lincoln, Neb.--The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Ron and Carol Cope Professor of Music and Director of Bands Carolyn Barber, presents a concert titled “New(er) Kids on the Block” on Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

The concert is free and open to the public. The concert will also be live webcast. Visit https://music.unl.edu/webcasts the day of the performance for the link.

When the Wind Ensemble last took the stage in Kimball Hall in October, they were exploring the retro vibe that underlies the wind band tradition. On Nov. 30, join them as they bridge the gap between tradition and innovation with “New(er) Kids on the Block.”

“The sounds of funk and electronica have been emanating from the Ensemble Performance Lab lately, as well as music by underrepresented composers,” Barber said. “The world has changed a great deal in the last 70 years, as has the language of the wind band.”

The program includes works by Jonathan Newman, Tanner Menard, Margaret Brouwer, Valerie Coleman, Leslie Bassett, Erika Svanoe and Michael Mikulka.

The Glenn Korff School of Music’s Wind Ensemble is the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s premier concert band.
