There are several different kinds of minors involving music. Many of them require that students successfully pass a performance audition. There is the Minor in Music with applied lessons (audition required) and the Minor in Music without applied lessons (no audition required). The two kinds of Musical Theatre minor require enrolled students to already be majors in either music or theatre, pass a vocal audition, and be accepted on the level of a minor in voice. The Minor in Music Technology requires no audition and is open to all interested undergraduates at UNL.
The Minor in Music
For students on the 2021 catalog and before: Students must successfully pass an audition to be accepted as a minor in music. Students on the 2022 catalog may choose to audition if they want to take applied lessons. An audition for the music minor is not required if applied lessons are not wanted. The Music Minor degree requires a total of 18 credit hours, including 4 semesters of applied music (4 cr.), 4 semesters of an approved ensemble (4 cr.), first-semester music theory and aural skills (MUSC 165 [3 cr.] and MUSC 165A [1 cr.]) and 6 additional credits in the music curriculum.
