Potter and Marks plan ‘A Leap of Faith: Music You’ve Never Heard’
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Professors Clark Potter and Christopher Marks combine to perform “A Leap of Faith: Music You’ve Never Heard” for viola and organ on Leap Day, Saturday, February 29 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Lincoln, 840 S 17th St. The recital is free and features music “sacred and profane”: Larghetto Religioso by Oskar Wermann and Sonata da Chiesa by Daniel Pinkham, as well as Thema mit Veränderungen by Carl Türcke and Sonata in Fa major (1904) by Marco Anzoletti.

GKSOM Alum Sullivan returns to play van Gogh
When University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Alisa Belflower reached out to GKSOM alum Nathaniel Sullivan about playing the role of Vincent van Gogh in the UNL Opera production of The Highest Yellow, he didn’t hesitate.
“Alisa called me back in November to see if I could do the role, and there wasn’t a doubt in my mind that I wanted to do it,” Sullivan said. “I was so excited at the prospect of coming back to Lincoln for a couple weeks, getting to work with Alisa again, and working on such a beautiful show.”

Theatrix continues with 'Hand to God'
Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, continues its 2019-2020 season with Hand to God, written by Robert Askins and directed by University of Nebraska student, Christa Retka.
Performances are February 27-29 at 7:30 PM, and March 1 at 2:00 PM. All performances take place in the Lab Theatre in the Temple Building at 12th and R Streets.

Carson Center’s Smith co-curates ‘STREAMING’ exhibition
Lincoln, Neb.--Assistant Professor of Emerging Media Arts Ash E. Smith has co-curated the exhibition “STREAMING” now on display through March 13 at the gallery@calit2 at the University of California San Diego’s Qualcomm Institute.
“STREAMING” is a research platform and exhibition that considers the ecological and social impacts of networked culture streams and the possibilities and limits for their calculation.

Duncan to present AIA lecture on Ancient Rome on Feb. 12
Lincoln, Neb.—University of Nebraska–Lincoln Associate Professor of Classics and Religious Studies Anne Duncan will present the next Archaeological Institute of America Omaha-Lincoln Society Lecture on Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Room 15. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Her lecture is titled “Dying Well and Dying Badly in Ancient Rome.”

Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist series continues with three artists in February
Lincoln, Neb.—Three artists will present Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lectures in February at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design.
Each lecture takes place at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lectures are free and open to the public. Photographer Rebecca Morse’s lecture is Tuesday, Feb. 4. Ceramic artist Sergei Isupov’s lecture is Wednesday, Feb. 5. And Painter David Gracie’s lecture is Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Annual Juried Undergraduate Exhibition opens Feb. 7
Lincoln, Neb.—The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall will host the “33rd Annual Juried Undergraduate Exhibition.” This year’s show is comprised of 64 works of art and design and features 49 undergraduate art students from the School of Art, Art History & Design.
The exhibition will be open Feb. 7-21. An opening reception will be held on First Friday, Feb. 7 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery. Awards will be announced at 6 p.m.

UNL Opera presents ‘The Highest Yellow’
Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music’s Opera program presents the new opera-cum-musical “The Highest Yellow: Healing Vincent Van Gogh,” which tells the story of the six months following the night artist Vincent Van Gogh severed his ear. This full production will be the first, since the commissioned debut at the Tony Award-winning Signature Theatre.
An opera cum musical means that this musical work for the stage is composed using some of the conventions typical of both opera and music theatre.
