Bailey, Marks combine for ‘An Embarrassment of Riches’
Flutist John Bailey and pianist Chris Marks give a recital with a rich variety of styles on Tuesday, February 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The program, “An Embarrassment of Riches,” explores gems of the flute repertoire, some relatively standard (works by Donizetti and Fukushima), and others less so (a work by British composer, Hamilton Harty, and a transcription of a work by Debussy). The program finishes with the sonata for piccolo and piano by Pulitzer-prize winning American composer, John La Montaine.

TCB Saxophone Quartet performance canceled
The TCB Saxophone Quartet performance, which was scheduled to take place in the Westbrook Recital Hall on February 16, has been canceled.

Busy weekend set on Jan. 24-26 with Audition Days, Winter Festival
On the weekend of January 24, 25 and 26, the Glenn Korff School of Music will be hosting its first audition days of the season as well as the annual Winter Festival.
The Glenn Korff School of Music welcomes all aspiring music and dance majors/minors to audition for admission to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music. All students who audition as a music or dance major are considered for generous scholarship support.

Nebraska Alumna Houser makes Met Opera debut in ‘The Magic Flute’
Lincoln, Neb.--Soprano Jeni Houser (M.M. 2011) made her Metropolitan Opera debut on Jan. 2, performing as The Queen of the Night in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.”
“It was kind of surreal,” Houser said of her experience performing on the famed Metropolitan Opera stage in New York City.

Mattingly named Associate Dean for Student Affairs
Lincoln, Neb.--Jacqueline Mattingly is the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts’ new Associate Dean for Student Affairs.
"I'm looking forward to having Jackie join the college administrative team," said Chuck O'Connor, endowed dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts. "She will be instrumental, at least initially on an interim basis, in first defining this brand-new position and then figuring out how we can better serve students in the long term."

Carson School presents Shakespeare's 'Julius Caesar'
Lincoln, Neb.--The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film announces a special production for the 2019-2020 season, “Julius Caesar” by William Shakespeare. Performances are Thursday and Friday, Jan. 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 25 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Performances are in the Lab Theatre, third floor, Temple Building, 12th & R streets.

Wristen presents ‘The Poetic Piano: From Despair to Exultation’
Dr. Brenda Wristen, Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy in the Glenn Korff School of Music, will present a piano recital Tuesday January 28, 2020 at 7:30 pm in Kimball Recital Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln downtown campus. The program, “The Poetic Piano: From Despair to Exultation,” will feature deeply evocative works that demonstrate the wide expressive range of the piano. Mozart’s passionate Sonata in C Minor K.

Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist series begins with sculptor Yousri on Jan. 22
Lincoln, Neb.--Nine artists will be presenting Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar lectures this spring in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design. Opening the spring series is sculptor Bassem Yousri, who will present his lecture on Jan. 22.
