GKSOM faculty, students plan travel, collaborations in South Korea

Interdisciplinary and globally impactful collaborations can change mindsets, which brings understanding and creativity to audiences throughout the world. What started as a partnership with University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music faculty members Karen Becker (cello) and Hye-Won Hwang (dance) will be taken to another level as they embark with a few GKSOM students to South Korea this month.

Lincoln, Neb.--Lincoln Friends of Chamber Music will bring together science, photography, musical composition, performance and philanthropy when they present "Time and the River," on Saturday, April 27, under the baton of composer Kurt Knecht (D.M.A. 2009).

The performance is at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Hall. Tickets are $15 general and $5 students and are available in advance from the Lied Center Box Office at (402) 472-4747, online at www.liedcenter.org/events (enter "lfcm") or at the door.

Carson School senior to intern at NFL Films

Lincoln, Neb.--Reed Ellefson, a senior film and new media major in the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film from Rapid City, South Dakota, has received a cinematography internship with NFL Films.

“We are so proud of Reed,” said Professor of Film Sharon Teo-Gooding. “It is always gratifying when our hard-working students have their efforts rewarded with an opportunity such as this one with NFL Films.”

Undergraduate photo senior wins national Society for Photographic Education student award

Lincoln, Neb.—Megan Rhoades, a senior studio art major from Omaha, Nebraska, who will graduate in May with her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, was among six students nationally who received Society for Photographic Education (SPE) Student Awards for Innovations in Imaging.

“It was really surprising,” Rhoades said. “It was just something Dana [Fritz] had convinced me to apply for. I thought, why not? I have nothing to lose. It was really validating to have my work recognized in that way.”

Capstone Exhibition opens April 29 at Eisentrager-Howard Gallery

Lincoln, Neb.—The “Capstone Exhibition” will be on display April 29-May 3 in both the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery and the MEDICI Gallery in Richards Hall.

This exhibition features the work of 32 undergraduate candidates for Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Arts degrees in graphic design and studio art from the School of Art, Art History & Design.

A closing reception will be held on Friday, May 3 from 5-7 p.m. in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery with awards announced at 6 p.m.

Two artists present final spring Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture Series lectures

Lincoln, Neb.— Printmaker Miguel A. Aragón and painter Alexander Ross will present the final spring Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lectures on April 24-25.

Aragón will present his lecture on Wednesday, April 24 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 14. Ross will present his lecture on Thursday, April 25 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. Both lectures are free and open to the public.

Lincoln, Neb.— The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design is hosting the Clay Club’s Spring Sale on April 26-27 in Richards Hall.

Hours for the sale are Friday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 118. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted at the sale.

In addition, on Friday, April 26 at 8:30 a.m., there will be a special collector’s tour of all the work in the Clay Club’s sale.

Korff School graduate student wins North American Student Composer Competition

Lincoln, Neb.--Rubén Darió Gómez, a second-year Doctor of Musical Arts student in the Glenn Korff School of Music, has won the North American Student Composer Competition organized and sponsored by MetWinds, a Boston-area wind ensemble.

As the winner of the competition, he will receive a $1,000 commission to write a five- to eight-minute piece for the ensemble, which will premiere in November 2020 during the ensemble’s 50th anniversary celebration.

‘Gallery of Titans’ closes out UNLSO season

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Symphony Orchestra closes its 2018-19 season with “Gallery of Titans,” a celebration of works by Mozart, Bach, and Mahler on Sunday, April 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.
