Glenn Korff School of Music presents two evenings of choir in March

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music will present two Evening of Choirs performances on March 8 and 10.

On March 8, the University Singers, Chamber Singers and University Chorale will perform at 7:30 p.m. at the Newman Center, 320 N 16th St. Admission is free and open to the public, but donations of any non-perishable foods or hygiene items are requested for the Husker Pantry, in conjunction with University Chorale’s performance of “Famine Song.”

Finalists announced for fine and performing arts dean

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln has named its finalists for the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts dean position.

Selected through a national search, the candidates will visit campus between Feb. 28 and March 10.

Candidates will participate in multiple-day interviews with a variety of college stakeholders. Public presentations, each at 3:30 p.m. in the Lied Center for Performing Arts’ Steinhart Room, will be offered in-person and via Zoom.

The new music building, scheduled to open in fall 2025, will replace the Westbrook Music Building.

Architectural firms announced for new music facilities

Lincoln, Neb.--The architecture firms who will design the new music building and renovate Kimball Hall have been selected.

The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has received funding to begin design and construction of a new $75 million music facility and $15 million renovation of Kimball Recital Hall. Those funds were approved by the Nebraska Legislature last year.

While these will be two, separate projects with two separate teams, the planning and construction for both projects will happen concurrently.

UNL Opera presents ‘She Loves Me’

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music’s opera program presents the musical “She Loves Me.”

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 4 and 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 6 in Kimball Recital Hall. Tickets are $20 adults and $10 seniors/students, available in advance from the Lied Box Office at (402) 472-4747 or at the door.

‘Tangling with the Epic’ features Hanrahan

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music presents “Tangling with the Epic” on Sunday, Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. in Westbrook Music Building Rm. 119. The concert is free and open to the public. 

Edgar “Yip” Harburg, an American lyricist known as “Broadway’s social conscience,” said, “Words make you think a thought. Music makes you feel a feeling. A song makes you feel a thought.”

This recital features the world premiere of a new song cycle for tenor, baritone and piano that does just that.
