Gunther faculty recital to feature UNL voice faculty, alumni

Lincoln, Neb.--A faculty recital by new Glenn Korff School of Music Assistant Professor of Voice Suna Gunther will include several University of Nebraska–Lincoln voice faculty and alumni.

The recital is Friday, Sept. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The concert is free and open to the public. The concert will also be live webcast. Visit https://arts.unl.edu/music/webcasts for the link.

Cornhusker Marching Band makes debut Sept. 4

Lincoln, NE--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln's 296-member Cornhusker Marching Band makes its 2021 debut Sept. 4 at Memorial Stadium with pregame and halftime performances at Nebraska's football home opener against Fordham.

It will be the band’s first in-person performance at the stadium since November 2019.

Robert Owens Ensemble earns finalist judges’ citation in The American Prize competition

Lincoln, Neb.--The Robert Owens Ensemble was awarded a Finalist Judges’ Citation for “Championing the Music of Robert Owens” in the 2020 American Prize Competition.

The ensemble includes three Glenn Korff School of Music faculty: Jamie Reimer Seaman, soprano; Karen Becker, cello; and Clark Potter, viola. The ensemble also includes pianist Stacie Haneline.

Last year’s Cornhusker Marching Band recorded a pregame and halftime performance in Memorial Stadium in October for the virtual game day experience. Cornhusker Marching Band exhibition concert is Aug. 20

Lincoln, Neb.--The Cornhusker Marching Band’s annual exhibition concert returns Friday, Aug. 20 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium. The concert is free and open to the public.

The annual concert will present highlights of what the Cornhusker Marching Band has been working on during their pre-season Band Camp, including the famous “drill down” and a preview of the first halftime show.

Barnes concert July 13 part of Lied Center Piano Academy

Lincoln, Neb.--Glenn Korff School of Music Marguerite Professor of Piano Paul Barnes will perform “Illuminations,” featuring piano works based on Byzantine, Jewish and Native American Chant, on Tuesday, July 13 at 7 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Reimer earns The American Prize special judges’ citation

Lincoln, Neb.--Glenn Korff School of Music Associate Professor of Voice Jamie Reimer Seaman earned a Special Judges’ Citation from The American Prize for “Championing the Music of Robert Owens.”

The American Prize is the nation’s most comprehensive series of contests in the classical arts. It is designed to evaluate, recognize and reward the best performers, ensembles, composers and administrators in the U.S. based on submitted recordings. The American Prize has been recognizing and rewarding American excellence in the performing arts since 2010.

GKSOM student Anderson wins Shildneck Solo Competition

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music student Luke Anderson is the winner of the 2021 John Shildneck Solo Competition with the Lincoln Municipal Band. Anderson performed Colors by Bert Appermont. He will perform the piece with the Lincoln Municipal Band this summer.

Lebita, Zuloaga awarded Glenn Korff Distinguished Artist/Scholar Awards

The Glenn Korff Distinguished Undergraduate and Graduate Artist/Scholar Awards were awarded as part of the Glenn Korff School of Music Honors Day Convocation on Thursday, April 29, 2021 as part of a virtual, online celebration.

Intended to recognize and reward excellence in performance and/or scholarship in the Glenn Korff School of Music, the winners of these prestigious awards for 2021 are – Undergraduate: Sean Lebita; Graduate: Florencia Zuloaga.
