GKSOM Faculty Jazz Ensemble to perform in Westbrook

The Glenn Korff School of Music Faculty Jazz Ensemble will perform in concert on December 2, 2019 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall. The concert will feature new music by DMA Jazz Studies student Seth Fromal, as well as band members Greg Simon, Darryl White, and Tom Larson, as well as jazz standards. The concert is free and open to the public. Members of the group are Peter Bouffard, guitar; Dave Hall, drums; Tom Larson, piano; Greg Simon, trumpet; Hans Sturm, bass; Darryl White, trumpet.

Come ‘To Sing and Dance’ with UNL Campus Orchestra

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Campus Orchestra presents “To Sing and Dance”, an evening celebrating music of lyrical beauty and rhythmic vitality on Monday, December 9 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Works will include Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite, Edward Elgar’s Sospiri, and Leonard Bernstein’s Mambo (from West Side Story), featuring members of the UNL percussion program. Escola de Samba by Dr. Tyler White along with the American premiere of Arco Iris by DMA graduate student Rubén Gómez, will also be performed.

UNL/LPS String Project hosts its fall performance at Park Middle School

The UNL & LPS String Project will present its fall concert on Monday, November 25th, 2019 at 6PM in the Park Middle School Auditorium (Rm. 118). Students from all over Lincoln will perform in the concert which will be led and conducted by Master Teacher Dottie Ladman and the following String Project Teachers who are string students in the Glenn Korff School of Music: Jonah Bennett, Jestin Cam, India Enter, Jacob Hardy, Tori Hartley, Aaron Jaapar, and Patrick Knowles. The concert is free and open to the public.

Flyover presents Many Voices: Declare

The second performance of Flyover New Music’s 2019-2020 season, Many Voices, is Declare and will take place on Monday, November 25 at 7:30 p.m. in the Glenn Korff School of Music’s Westbrook Recital Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.

This program’s sound palette is an eclectic assortment representing each instrumental family, including recorded sound. Join us for a variety of declarations: homages to influential people or places, philosophical ideas, historical reflections, and the powerful declaration of our place in new music.

Glenn Korff School of Music Solo Concerto Winners Announced

The 2019 Glenn Korff School of Music Solo Concerto Competition took place on Sunday (Nov. 3) and Monday (Nov. 4) in Westbrook Recital Hall. In the Graduate category, the winners were Ashley Cypher (Clarinet) and Leon Zajimovic (Marimba) with Brandy Trucke (Oboe) as honorable mention. In the Undergraduate category, the winners were Claudia Holm (Violin) and Jocelyn Meyer (Cello) with honorable mention going to Ethan Millington (Tuba) and Cameron Berta (Piano).

Chesanek recital to be live webcast

We are excited to announce that we have added a Graduate Student Showcase Recital to our webcast schedule.

Double bassist Christian Chesanek will be giving his final degree recital in fulfillment of a Doctorate in Jazz Studies at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music on November 24 at 1:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall. This program will showcase all original arrangements. Spanning from traditional jazz standards to four original pieces written for Sextet. Joining him will be UNL current students and alumni.

ChamberFest and Honors ChamberFest offer unique nights

The ChamberFest and Honors ChamberFest concerts will take place Monday, November 18 through Wednesday, November 20 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music. 

On the opening night at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall, three chamber groups will perform beginning with the Frattura Trio. A second chamber group will perform a piece by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the final group will perform a piece by Johannes Brahms.

Korff School junior wins Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition

Lincoln, Neb.—Jonah Payne, a junior percussion performance major in the Glenn Korff School of Music from Lincoln, Neb., was selected as the winner of Lincoln’s Symphony Orchestra Young Artist competition for the 2019-2020 season.
