Percussion Ensemble to perform PASIC concert in Kimball

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Percussion Ensemble was selected for a second time as winners of the Percussive Arts Society International Percussion Ensemble Competition. The group will perform an hour-long showcase concert at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) this November. Come see this award-winning group of percussionists in action as they present the first performance of their convention program right here in Lincoln on Tuesday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall!

University of Nebraska Brass Quintet goes ‘Back to Basics’

The University of Nebraska Brass Quintet has performed most of the great repertoire for the genre. For the past decade, the group has dedicated itself to showcasing original repertoire. Admittedly some of the repertoire is esoteric. Its concert on Monday, October 28 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall is an attempt to get back to basics and play the great repertoire for quintet.

GKSOM choirs, Bellevue East High School combine for ‘Our Season’s Changing Light’

In a concert titled “OUR SEASON’S CHANGING LIGHT,” music is chosen to reflect change, progress, and unity as the University Singers, All-Collegiate Choir and Bellevue East High School perform at the Newman Center Church (320 North 16th Street) on Thursday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m.

A special guest high school choir from Bellevue East High School, under the direction of UNL alum, Dr. Marjorie Simons-Bester, will contribute to the center portion of the performance and join all choirs with a new version of the classic text “Let All the World in Every Corner Sing.”

Reimer recital scheduled for October 14 postponed

Soprano Jamie Reimer, associate professor of voice at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, has postponed her October 14 recital, which was scheduled to take place in the Kimball Recital Hall. No makeup date has been set.

GKSOM success at 2019 Nebraska NATS

On Friday, October 4, 44 University of Nebraska-Lincoln Voice students and their student pianists traveled to and from the University of Nebraska at Kearney for the Nebraska NATS Student Auditions.

Voice and Directing Faculty Professor Alisa Belflower said, the students represented UNL and the Glenn Korff School of Music beautifully resulting in the following awards won (NOTE: 1st place is the winner of each category of entry):

Robert Woody The cover of Robert Woody’s new book, “Becoming a Real Musician:  Inspiration and Guidance for Teachers and Parents of Musical Kids,” which affirms the idea that children become musical through appropriate musical experiences that are supported by the adults in their lives.

Woody’s book on inspiring musical children is released

Lincoln, Neb.--Robert Woody, the Steinhart Foundation Distinguished Professor of Music, Professor of Music Education and undergraduate education co-area head in the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, has a new book being published titled “Becoming a Real Musician:  Inspiration and Guidance for Teachers and Parents of Musical Kids.”

UNLSO going on tour in Nebraska, South Dakota

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Symphony Orchestra will be going on tour October 11-13, 2019.

The tour begins with a 7 p.m. performance at the Johnny Carson Theater, 801 Riverside Blvd., in Norfolk, NE on Friday, October 11. After spending the night in Norfolk, the ensemble will travel to Rapid City, South Dakota for a 7:30 p.m. performance at Central High School, 433 Mt. Rushmore Road on Saturday, October 12. The UNLSO will then travel back to Lincoln on Sunday.

Big Band and Grad Jazz Combo take to the Kimball stage

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Big Band will perform the All Sammy Nestico Program to open the 2019-2020 season on Thursday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The concert will also feature the Graduate Jazz Combo from the Glenn Korff School of Music.

Nestico is a composer/arranger and was associated with the Count Basie Orchestra and the US. Air Force Band for many years. The selection will be including “Switch In Time” and “Strike Up The Band” from Basie’s favorites.

Heartland Duo changes date of performance

The Heartland Duo has changed the date of its performance to January 27, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall.

It was previously scheduled for November 8, 2019.
