McCray injury forces changes to upcoming performance
On July 22, Glenn Korff School of Music Associate Professor of Bassoon Jeff McCray suffered a devastating injury to his right knee, a ruptured patellar tendon. Doctors say it will be 6-12 months before he is fully recovered.
“Due to restrictions of keeping my foot up when seated and the dimensions of the brace I’m in pretty much prevent me from being able to play the bassoon in a healthy way, so I’m forced to take some time off,” McCray said.

Changes to Kimball Recital Hall
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Kimball Recital Hall, completed in 1969, has been busy with updates over the summer, with many of those changes sure to be very visual to both patrons and students/faculty alike.
The most striking is the new maple wooden stage flooring that replaced flooring that is believed to be original to the building built nearly 50 years ago.

Cornhusker Marching Band using iPads this season to enhance student experience
Lincoln, Neb.--Known as “The Pride of All Nebraska,” members of the Cornhusker Marching Band will be issued iPads this Fall to help streamline and enhance the teaching process.

New faculty and updates at the Glenn Korff School of Music
There have been some recent changes to the faculty at the Glenn Korff School of Music.
Greg Simon has been appointed as Assistant Professor of Composition (Concert/Jazz/Commercial) in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music. Prior to his appointment at UNL, he taught at Concordia University Ann Arbor, the Metropolitan State University of Denver, and the University of Colorado. He also serves on the composition artist-faculty at the Brevard Music Center.

Big Red Singers to make its season debut August 20
The 2016-2017 Big Red Singers will make its debut on Saturday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall by performing select titles of recent Nebraska Show Choir Camp songs, as well as a customized arrangement by recent UNL graduate, and award-winning composer John Kosch.
The exhibition is a high-energy performance of singing and expert choreography that will conclude a week of rehearsals. The concert is free and open to the public, but patrons are advised to come early to get the best seats. It will be a performance to remember!

Cornhusker Marching Band takes over Memorial Stadium
The Cornhusker Marching Band’s annual exhibition performance will take place Friday, August 19 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.
You'll see highlights of what the Cornhusker Marching Band has been working on during their pre-season Band Camp, including the famous "drill down," a preview of the first halftime show and hear many more Husker favorites.

When Brian Podwinksi heard that Grandmother’s restaurant was closing and, along with it, the end of the Grandmother’s Pep Band, which was in existence for 25 years, he knew he had an immediate and wonderful solution.

Vestecka named Color Guard Instructor for Cornhusker Marching Band
From being a member, to alum and now as a staff member, Michaela Vestecka is super excited to be named the Color Guard Instructor for the Cornhusker Marching Band.
“UNL Bands is excited to introduce the new Color Guard Instructor for the Cornhusker Marching Band, Michaela Vestecka,” said Associate Director of Bands and Director of the Cornhusker Marching Band Tony Falcone. “Vestecka is an alum of the Band and has been active as a choreographer and instructor for area high schools since graduation.
