Korff School faculty to present at ISME conference

A number of members of the faculty of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music will be presenting at the 2016 International Society for Music Education Conference in Glasgow, Scotland beginning Monday.

“We are proud to have so many of our faculty presenting at ISME 2016, which is the premier international conference for music educators from around the world,” said Interim Director of the Glenn Korff School of Music Peter M. Lefferts.

Lefferts named interim director of Glenn Korff School of Music

Lincoln, Neb.--Peter M. Lefferts, a longtime faculty member, has been named interim director of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music, effective July 16.

He replaces departing director John W. Richmond, who stepped down to become the Dean of the College of Music at the University of North Texas in Denton starting Aug. 1.

Lefferts is professor of music history and a two-term Hixson-Lied Professor from 2009 to 2015. He has previously served as associate director of the Glenn Korff School of Music since 2014.

Sturm releases CD 'A Day in Paris'

Lincoln, Neb.--Associate Professor of Double Bass and Jazz Studies Hans Sturm has released a new CD titled “A Day in Paris.”

Joining him on the CD are Assistant Professor of Composition Tom Larson, piano, and Sylvain Rabbath, piano.

In the liner notes on the CD, Jazz Journalist Neil Tesser (Grammy Award 2014 and Jazz Journalist Association Lifetime Achievement Award 2015) wrote, “With apologies to Réne Magritte, this is not (exactly) a jazz album.”

Korff School alum to premiere his commission at Organ Historical Society Convention

Lincoln, Neb.--Glenn Korff School of Music Alumnus and Lecturer of Composition Kurt Knecht (D.M.A. 2009) will have his major new commission, titled “Toccata, Adagio, Fugue,” premiered at the Organ Historical Society (OHS) National Convention at Kimmel Hall in Philadelphia on June 27. The commission celebrates the 60th anniversary of the OHS.

Mathew 'loves' Nebraska Show Choir Camp

The energy is abundant at the Nebraska Show Choir Camp at the Glenn Korff School of Music on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.

The campers arrived on Sunday and will be singing, dancing and learning the whole week long until it culminates with 3 p.m. concert in Kimball Recital Hall.

One of those taking part is Dakota Mathew, who will be a freshman Vocal Music Education major at UNL in the fall. He’s made the trip to camp this summer from Harrisonville, Missouri.

Rodriguez finds 'fantastic opportunity' at Chamber Music Institute

Andrew Rodriguez visits friends and family often in Nebraska but this visit to the Cornhusker State is for a “fantastic opportunity.”

Rodriguez is in Lincoln for the Chamber Music Institute, a weeklong camp for college students, recent college students and international students with lessons in performance, composition and entrepreneurship at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music.

3 Korff School alumni are quarterfinalists for GRAMMY Educator Award

Lincoln, Neb.--Three Glenn Korff School of Music alumni are among 290 quarterfinalists selected for the 2017 Music Educator Award from The Recording Academy and the GRAMMY Foundation.

Darren Pettit (DMA 2016), an instructor at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, Jacob Bartlett (MM 2008, DMA 2011), assistant professor of music at Peru State College, and Craig Edgar (BME 2011) are quarterfinalists. The final recipient will be honored during GRAMMY Week in 2017.

Korff School earns 6 national semi-finalist spots in NATS competition

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music has five students and alumni who received six national semi-finalist positions in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Student Auditions and Young Artist Competitions.

The finals will be held in Chicago from July 7-10. National semi-finalists have completed six independent rounds of competition to be named one of the top 14 singers in the nation in their age/gender category.

Richmond to step down as Glenn Korff School Director

Lincoln, Neb--Dr. John W. Richmond is stepping down from his position as director of the Glenn Korff School of Music to become the Dean of the College of Music at the University of North Texas in Denton. He begins his new position on Aug. 1.

UNL Opera takes ‘Marriage of Figaro’ across Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music’s opera program is taking its production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” on the road in May and completing a four-city tour across Nebraska, thanks to the generosity of the James C. and Rhonda Seacrest Tour Nebraska Opera Fund.
