Amicitia Duo to present morning recital in Westbrook

LINCOLN, Neb.— Formed out of friendship, the Amicitia Duo brings music for clarinet to a wide variety of audiences featuring clarinetists Diane Barger (UNL’s Hixson-Lied Professor of Clarinet) and Denise Gainey (University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Associate Professor of Clarinet). The Duo will be presenting a recital at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 12 in the Westbrook Recital Hall in the Glenn Korff School of Music.

UNL Symphony Orchestra presents ‘Student Soloist Night’

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Symphony Orchestra presents “Student Soloist Night” on Saturday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Featured on the program are the winners of the 2015-16 Graduate and Undergraduate Solo Competitions, Patty Kramer, mezzo-soprano, and Addie Hotchkiss, cello. The program will also feature Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5 (“Reformation”) and Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture.

Glenn Korff School of Music alum is Lotte Lenya competition semi-finalist

Lincoln, Neb.--University of Nebraska alumna Kayla Wilkens (M.M. 2014), is one of 31 singers selected nationwide as a semifinalist for the 19th annual Lotte Lenya Competition, sponsored by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music.
 
More than 200 singers/actors, ages 19-32, from 11 countries, submitted audition videos of their performances of diverse repertoire from the operatic, golden age and contemporary musical theatre stage, as well as the music of Weill.

‘Music from UNL’ coming up from UNL Jazz Orchestra and UNL Big Band

LINCOLN, Neb.— The UNL Jazz Orchestra (Dr. Paul Haar, Director) and the UNL Big Band (Patrick Brown, director) will present MUSIC FROM UNL, a concert of original works and arrangements for big band, by UNL students, faculty and alumni. This concert will take place Thursday, March 10, 2016 in Kimball Recital Hall starting at 7:30 p.m.

Bolt chosen as winner of Play with the Chiaras

LINCOLN, Neb.— This year’s winner of the Play with the Chiaras Audition is cellist Korynne Bolt.  This year’s alternate is saxophonist Nicholas May.  Bolt will perform Schubert’s Cello Quintet in C Major D. 956 with the Chiara String Quartet in their Hixson-Lied Concert Series performance in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Kimball Recital Hall on Monday, March 7 at 7:30 p.m.

UNL / LPS String Project

UNL/LPS String Project returns, high number of third-graders taking part

Twice a week, third graders from around the Lincoln area make their way into the band classroom at Park Middle School for a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s an activity known as the UNL/LPS String Project, a joint effort between the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Lincoln Public Schools.

The UNL/LPS String Project began as the UNL String Project in 2000 but came to an end in the Spring of 2006. But over time, it was discussed to bring the project back.
