UNL/LPS String Project returns, high number of third-graders taking part

Twice a week, third graders from around the Lincoln area make their way into the band classroom at Park Middle School for a one-of-a-kind experience. It’s an activity known as the UNL/LPS String Project, a joint effort between the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and the Lincoln Public Schools.

The UNL/LPS String Project began as the UNL String Project in 2000 but came to an end in the Spring of 2006. But over time, it was discussed to bring the project back.

Barnes hosts CD release recital of ‘New Generations’

LINCOLN, Neb.— Pianist Paul Barnes, celebrating twenty years of collaboration with composer Philip Glass, will have a CD release recital of “New Generations: The New Etudes of Philip Glass and Music of the Next Generation” on Wednesday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Bailey’s performance rescheduled for March 31 in Westbrook Recital Hall

LINCOLN, Neb.— John Bailey’s flute performance has been rescheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 31 in the Westbrook Recital Hall at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music.  The performance will also be webcast.

Concordia String Trio

Concordia String Trio’s performance coming up on February 23

LINCOLN, Neb.— Come hear members of the Concordia String Trio -- Marcia Henry Liebenow (violin), Leslie Perna (viola) and Karen Becker (cello) -- on February 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Recital Hall at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Muisc. They will perform music by Viennese romantic composers Richard Von Perger and Julius Zellner, and American Pulitzer Prize-winner John Harbison.

This is the last stop in a seven-concert tour throughout Missouri, Illinois, and Nebraska.

Long-time UNL music educator Schneider passes away

We are saddened to hear about the passing of Denny Schneider earlier this week. Professor Dennis Schneider came to the University of Nebraska Glenn Korff School of Music in 1961 as instructor of brass instruments after three years as band director in the Falls City, Nebraska, Public Schools. He retired from UNL in 1997 as full professor. A graduate of Lincoln High School, Schneider received his bachelor of music in education from the University of Nebraska and his master of music in education from Indiana University.

Bailey’s performance to be rescheduled for later in spring semester

LINCOLN, Neb.— Due to the snowstorm and the cancellation of classes at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, tonight’s John Bailey performance, scheduled in the Glenn Korff School of Music’s Kimball Recital Hall, will not take place. The performance will be rescheduled for later in this spring semester. No date has yet been set.
