Flyover new music concert is Oct. 15

Lincoln, Neb.—The first Flyover new music concert will be held on Friday, Oct. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Music Building Rm. 119. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Flyover New Music Series is the new music series presented by composition students in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music. The series is administered and overseen by composition faculty and students.
The first concert of the 2021-2022 season is titled “Introspection.” The program will feature three works by two Masters students, John David Cope and Coral Douglas.
The concert opens with “Unfettered” by Cope, a composition for solo piano that plunges into the world of minimalism.
“When I wrote this piece last semester, I wanted to test out my piano skills and see if I could write something that was simple, while also being complex,” Cope writes in the program notes. “In other words, I wanted to utilize the simplicity of minimalism coupled with the complexity of my personal composition style, which is based on syncopation and extended harmonies.”
The program also includes “Circuit” by Douglas and “An Ineffable Heat” by Cope.
“We are excited to welcome our audience back to Westbrook 119 for the first in-person Flyover concert since the spring 2020 season,” said Tanner Harrod, a graduate teaching assistant in the Glenn Korff School of Music in the music composition area. “We hope you join us for an evening of great music by our phenomenal student composers.”
The Flyover New Music Series is the only concert series in the Glenn Korff School of Music in which students are the core of not only the music, but the production. Student volunteers compose and perform all music, organize all performances and work on support teams for Flyover concerts. In collaboration with faculty advisors, students oversee publicity and community outreach for Flyover.
The next concert of the Flyover New Music Series will be Monday, Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Music Building Rm. 119.
