Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, begins its 2019-2020 season with Smokefall, written by Noah Haidle and directed by University of Nebraska student, Ethan Greenlee.

Performances are Oct. 17-19 at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. All performances take place in the Lab Theatre in the Temple Building at 12th and R streets.

“Magical realism collides with manic vaudeville in a family drama unlike any you’ve ever seen. Fetuses swap philosophy while awaiting their birth, a daughter eats dirt and doesn’t speak, a father is about to drive away and never return, and there’s an apple tree growing through the walls of the house. Whipping from astonishing tenderness to profound humor and back again, SMOKEFALL explores the lives of a family in a lyrical treatise on the fragility of life and the power of love.” (Dramatists Play Service)

Theatrix’s production of Smokefall is directed by junior Theatre Directing and Management major Ethan Greenlee, and features performances by junior Theatre Performance major, Arin Turnage, sophomore Theatre Performance major Claire McClannan, freshman Theatre Performance major Daniel Darter, sophomore Theatre Performance major Brett Gaffney, and UNL alumnus John Burkhart.
