Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Wind Ensemble presents their final fall concert, titled “No. 31,” on Saturday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Music Building Rm. 130 with a simulcast in Rm. 119 for overflow seating.
The concert is free and open to the public. It will also be available for remote webcast. Visit https://music.unl.edu/webcasts the day of the concert for the link.
The program includes David Maslanka’s “California,” Kimberly Archer’s “Common Threads,” Chen Yi’s “Spring Festival,” Carol Brittin Chambers’ “La Terre Sacrée” and Alfred Reed’s “El Camino Real.”
“No. 31 is both real and imaginary. It is a place and a state of mind, full of contradictions. It encompasses immense wealth and abject poverty, dreams fulfilled and shattered, breathtaking natural beauty and utter devastation. It is densely populated and completely empty, hot and cold, wet and dry. Most people on earth are aware of it and influenced by it every day,” said Carolyn Barber, Ron and Carol Cope Professor of Music, Director of Bands and director of the Wind Ensemble. “Join the Wind Ensemble to explore No. 31 as only the Ensemble Performance Lab can. And if you haven’t figured out what it is yet, we promise to tell you. In the meantime, guessing is good.”
