Leggent awarded 2nd place in 2021 Young Painters Competition
Julia Leggent, a third-year Master of Fine Arts graduate student in the School of Art, Art History & Design, has been awarded 2nd place in the 2021 Young Painters Competition by the Miami University (Ohio) College of Creative Arts and the Department of Art.
“I was extremely excited to even be a part of this show,” Leggent said. “To actually get an award was surreal.”

Ceramics alumna Willers is president-elect of NCECA
Lincoln, Neb.--School of Art, Art History & Design alumna Rhonda Willers (M.F.A. 2007) is the president-elect of the board of directors for NCECA (National Council on the Education for the Ceramic Arts).
NCECA is the largest ceramics organization in the world and one of the largest visual arts organizations in the U.S. with around 6,000 members attending the national conference each year.

Husker alumna Meier honored as Jerome Hill Artist Fellow
Lincoln, Neb.--School of Art, Art History & Design alumna Catherine Meier (B.F.A. 2005) has been honored as a Jerome Hill Artist Fellow. The Jerome Hill Artist Fellowship awards 60 artist fellowships to early career artists in Minnesota and New York City annually.
Meier is one of 10 who received the fellowships in visual arts. Fellows receive $50,000 over two consecutive years to support self-determined activities for creation of new work, artistic development and/or professional artistic career development.

Carson Center’s Twomey receives NSF grant for Augmented Reality research
Lincoln, Neb.—Robert Twomey, assistant professor of emerging media arts at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, has received a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant as co-principal investigator on a $750,000 project titled “An Embodied, Augmented Reality Coding Platform for Pair Programming.”

Reimer CD features The Last Songs of Robert Owens
Lincoln, Neb.--Associate Professor of Voice Jamie Reimer’s CD “The Last Songs of Robert Owens” will be released on March 19 by Centaur Records.
The CD is available for pre-order on Amazon at https://go.unl.edu/348o.
“This CD is a culmination of the songs for voice and piano and the chamber music for voice and strings (viola, cello and piano) that Robert Owens wrote at the end of his life,” Reimer said.

UNLSO presents Student Soloist Night
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Symphony Orchestra presents Student Soloist Night, featuring winners of the 2020-21 Undergraduate Solo Competition on March 9 at 7:30 p.m., live from Kimball Recital Hall. No in-person audience.
Mee-Hwa Roche, viola, plays Gustav Holst’s Lyric Movement for viola and small orchestra, and India Enter, cello, plays Antonio Vivaldi’s Cello Concerto in A minor, RV 421. The winner of the Graduate Solo Competition, Sanda Mašic, flute, will be featured on an upcoming UNLSO concert in Fall 2021.

Black History Month Celebration Trivia Night Feb. 26

34th Annual Juried Undergraduate Art Exhibition on display through March 5
Lincoln, Neb.—The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall will host the 34th Annual Juried Undergraduate Art Exhibition. The exhibition opened Feb. 12 and will continue through March 5.
This year’s show, titled “Caution to the Wind,” is comprised of 34 works of art and design recently created by 28 undergraduate art students from the School of Art, Art History & Design.
