GKSOM’s Pracht wins collegiate-level Brass Division of MTNA state competition

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Kayla Pracht, who is a Junior Bachelor of Music major, won the Brass Division of the Music Teacher’s National Association (MTNA) state competition last week. 

“It means so much to me that I won the state round,” Pracht said. “This honor really motivated me to keep pushing myself to grow as a musician and a horn player. This motivation has pushed me to practice more to accomplish my goals.”

Korff School’s Berg places in three categories in international voice competition

Lincoln, Neb.--Glenn Korff School of Music senior Karin Berg placed in three categories of The Great Composers international music competition.

“Receiving these awards was exciting, and I’m very thankful for them,” Berg said. “I’m also grateful for the opportunity to share my singing in these unpredictable times.”

Korff Kast Extra, an off shoot of Korff Kast (the podcast of the Glenn Korff School of Music) is being released today and features student Alex Chapman.

Chapman shares his thoughts about what brought him to UNL, why he chose the bass, what the semester has been like with the COVID restrictions (including the upcoming Symphony Orchestra performance), about his upcoming solo recital, what his summer was like, including his time in Minneapolis, and the most important take away from it all.

Winners of Concerto Competition announced

Each year the talented students of the Glenn Korff School of Music compete for the opportunity to perform a concerto, aria, or other solo work with one of the school’s premiere large ensembles. Repertoire used for this event typically ranges from standard concert and operatic works to lesser-known “showcase” pieces written for legendary performers.

GKSOM Students have success in Nebraska NATS Student Auditions

In Nebraska NATS Student Auditions held online October 15-29, 2020, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music students were quite successful! See photo for results but they included: 

  • GKSOM student singers won 86% of the categories of entry
  • an additional 25 GKSOM student singers were named finalists in their categories
  • totaling 57 recognitions earned by GKSOM student singers
  • GKSOM Voice GTA's students received a record 14 of those recognitions

UNL Saxophone Studio presents ‘We Are Family’

The UNL Saxophone Studio is ready to present a wonderful evening of music for saxophone titled, “We Are Family”, on Sunday, November 15, 2020 at 7:30 pm. COVID may be here but it won’t stop the music and it will never stop our sense of community. This fall, we present three saxophone quartets, in a socially responsible setting, presenting the music of Bach, Schumann, Florenzo, Larsen, Maslanka, and others. No in-person audience. Flyover presents ‘Untold Stories’; also follow the Flyover Process

 In response to the pandemic, which has completely changed possibilities for making music in person, the composers at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music have teamed up with our performer colleagues to create music for our time and will do so with a live Flyover New Music ‘Untold Stories’ performance on November 17 at 7:30 p.m. from Westbrook Recital Hall. ‘What Could Be, What Is’ features Jazz Singers, Jazz Orchestra
