The information in this handbook and other University catalogs, publications, or announcements is subject to change without notice. University offices can provide current information about possible changes.
This handbook is effective August 2023. This handbook presents information on degree options, academic requirements, policies, and regulations governing the doctoral degrees offered by the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Its text may not reflect the most recent revisions made to programs during the current academic year. Students should always check with the Associate Director of Graduate Studies, Glenn Korff School of Music for up-to-date changes that have been mandated by UNL's Office of Graduate Studies or which have been approved by the Graduate Committee of the Glenn Korff School of Music.
We are governed in graduate matters by the university's system-wide NU Graduate College and its Dean---NU Executive Vice President and Provost and Dean of the Graduate College, Dr. Jeffrey Gold. The NU Graduate College is represented on our campus by Dr. Debra Hope, who is UNL's Associate Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Graduate Education. Dean Hope oversees the UNL Office of Graduate Studies (1100 Seaton Hall). We are also directed in matters of graduate education by our national accrediting agency, the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).

A Note About the Use of our Facilities
When UNL cancels classes on short notice, and Westbrook Music Building and Kimball Hall are then closed (as, for example, when there is a weather emergency), then all Glenn Korff School of Music events (including applied lessons) are cancelled, all room reservations are cancelled, and all students without special key access must leave the building.
When special events in Westbrook Music Building require all classes in the building to be cancelled, or require full use of the building on a Saturday (as, for example, on Audition Days, Nebraska Music Education Association, Winter Winds, Bandmasters), then students will not be allowed to reserve rooms for their use on those days. Further, on those days, priority in the use of practice rooms must go to our guests, so students should not expect to be able to use a practice room, and if a music student is using a practice room that is needed for a guest, they must step out in favor of that guest if requested to do so.
