Korff School earns 6 national semi-finalist spots in NATS competition

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music has five students and alumni who received six national semi-finalist positions in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) Student Auditions and Young Artist Competitions.

The finals will be held in Chicago from July 7-10. National semi-finalists have completed six independent rounds of competition to be named one of the top 14 singers in the nation in their age/gender category.

Richmond to step down as Glenn Korff School Director

Lincoln, Neb--Dr. John W. Richmond is stepping down from his position as director of the Glenn Korff School of Music to become the Dean of the College of Music at the University of North Texas in Denton. He begins his new position on Aug. 1.

Art history undergrad has internship in Germany this summer

Lincoln, Neb.--Anika Zempleni, a junior art history and advertising and public relations dual major from Lincoln, Nebraska, has an internship this summer at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt, Germany.

She will be there June 27 until Aug. 5 and will be working with Dr. Jochen Sander, the vice director for scholarly affairs at the museum and an art history professor at Goethe University in Frankfurt. She will assist him with his research.

UNL Opera takes ‘Marriage of Figaro’ across Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music’s opera program is taking its production of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s “The Marriage of Figaro” on the road in May and completing a four-city tour across Nebraska, thanks to the generosity of the James C. and Rhonda Seacrest Tour Nebraska Opera Fund.

Glenn Korff School of Music awards announced at annual Honors Convocation

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Glenn Korff School of Music hosted its annual Honors Convocation on Thursday afternoon, April 28 in the Westbrook Recital Hall.

The Glenn Korff Distinguished Undergraduate and Graduate Artist/Scholar Awards are intended to recognize and reward excellence in performance and/or scholarship in our School. The winners of these prestigious awards are – Undergraduate: Hannah Bell; Graduate: Dimitra Kokkinopoulou.

Graduate ceramics student is selected as Emerging Artist 2016

Lincoln, Neb.--Qwist Joseph, who graduates in May with his Master of Fine Arts in ceramics in the Department of Art and Art History, has been selected by Ceramics Monthly magazine as an Emerging Artist 2016.

He is just one of 14 artists nationally selected by the magazine for this honor, and his work is featured in their May 2016 issue. All ceramic artists, both U.S. and international, who have been actively pursuing a career in ceramics for less than 10 years were eligible to apply.

OSU's Derr named new chairman of Department of Art and Art History

Lincoln, Neb.—Robert Ladislas Derr, associate professor of art, undergraduate chair and photography area coordinator at The Ohio State University, has been named the new Chairman of the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. Derr will begin his tenure at UNL on July 1.

Carson School alumna Kraft is head of props for Sesame Street Live

Lincoln, Neb.--Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film Alumna Megan Kraft (B.A. 2013) is the head of props for Sesame Street Live. She began her new position in April.

“I have longed to tour ever since I was in school,” she said. “So when I was offered the head of props position for one of the tours of Sesame Street Live, I initially thought, ‘FINALLY, this is my foot in the door!’ I was so excited to start a new adventure that would challenge me.”
