Honors Day Celebration is April 23

Lincoln, Neb.--The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts will celebrate faculty, staff, student and alumni achievement at its annual Honors Day Celebration on Saturday, April 23. The event is by invitation only.

Among the awards to be presented will be the following Alumni Board Awards:

MFA Thesis Exhibition III opens April 18

Lincoln, Neb.--The final MFA Thesis Exhibition III runs April 18-22 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. A closing reception will be held April 22 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

The third MFA Thesis Exhibition features the work of Amanda Breitbach, Keith Graham and Shalya Marsh.

Honors ChamberFest Performance

ChamberFest, Honors ChamberFest performances coming soon

LINCOLN, Neb.— ChamberFest and Honors ChamberFest performances will soon be taking place at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music and all of the performances are free and open to the public. The students are coached by UNL Faculty -- Rebecca Fischer, David Neely, Ann Chang, Mark Clinton, Gregory Beaver and Karen Becker.

The first night, ChamberFest, features 12 student ensembles from the Chamber Music Program on Sunday, April 24 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Recital Hall.

UNL’s Evenings of Dance coming up April 21-24

LINCOLN, Neb.— Evenings of Dance, an annual concert of modern dance works by faculty, guest artists and selected students of the UNL dance program in the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln will take place April 21-24 at the Lied Center’s Johnny Carson Theatre located at 11th and Q streets on the UNL campus.

Sokolow to present next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist lecture April 28

Lincoln, Neb.--Deb Sokolow will present the next lecture of the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists & Scholars Lecture Series on Thursday, April 28 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15 on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln city campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Sokolow is a Chicago-based artist and a lecturer at Northwestern University. She is a 2012 recipient of an Artadia Grant and has participated in residencies nationally and internationally.

UNL's von Kampen selected as MTNA Distinguished Composer of the Year

Lincoln, Neb.—David von Kampen (B.M. 2009, M.M. 2011), a lecturer in composition in the Glenn Korff School of Music, has been selected as the 2015 Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Distinguished Composer of the Year.

The recipient of this award is chosen from the entrants in the annual MTNA Commissioned Composer program. Any MTNA state affiliate may commission a composer with financial assistance from MTNA, and von Kampen was Nebraska’s commissioned composer last year.
