UNL Social Practice Coalition presents March exhibition for UNL Women's Week

Lincoln, Neb.—The UNL Social Practice Coalition is curating an art exhibition for UNL’s Women’s Week in March.

“Owning It:  Engendering Consciousness” will be shown in the Love Library Commons and also screened on The Cube, a digital canvas in downtown Lincoln’s Haymarket. Both shows will be on display March 5-31.

A reception for the library exhibition will be held on Monday, March 14 from 5-7 p.m.; a reception will also be held at The Cube on Saturday, March 5 from 8-9:30 p.m.

Chiara String Quartet presents final performance of 2015-16 season

LINCOLN, Neb.— On Monday, March 7, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., the Chiara String Quartet will be performing the final concert of the 2015-2016 Hixson-Lied Concert Series at Kimball Recital Hall (11th and R Streets). The program will feature a program of Gabriela Lena Frank’s Canciones Populares and Leyendas: An Andean Walkabout, plus Schubert’s Cello Quintet in C Major, Op. 163 with cellist Korynne Bolt, the winner of the “Play with the Chiaras” competition. Gabriela Lena Frank has written five pieces for the Chiara Quartet or its members.

UNL’s Evenings of Choirs concert to feature variety of choral music

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Evening of Choirs concert on Sunday, March 13 in Kimball Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. will feature three of the Glenn Korff School of Music’s larger and popular choral ensembles, the Varsity Men’s Chorus, Collegiate Choir, and the University Women’s Chorale.

Amicitia Duo to present morning recital in Westbrook

LINCOLN, Neb.— Formed out of friendship, the Amicitia Duo brings music for clarinet to a wide variety of audiences featuring clarinetists Diane Barger (UNL’s Hixson-Lied Professor of Clarinet) and Denise Gainey (University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Associate Professor of Clarinet). The Duo will be presenting a recital at 9 a.m. on Saturday, March 12 in the Westbrook Recital Hall in the Glenn Korff School of Music.

UNL Symphony Orchestra presents ‘Student Soloist Night’

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Symphony Orchestra presents “Student Soloist Night” on Saturday, March 12 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Featured on the program are the winners of the 2015-16 Graduate and Undergraduate Solo Competitions, Patty Kramer, mezzo-soprano, and Addie Hotchkiss, cello. The program will also feature Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 5 (“Reformation”) and Brahms’s Academic Festival Overture.

ArtStream mobile ceramics gallery at UNL March 7-8

Lincoln, Neb.--ArtStream Nomadic Gallery, the mobile pottery gallery, will be at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Department of Art and Art History March 7-8. Three guest artists will be coming, including Ayumi Horie, Lorna Meaden and Lisa Orr.
 
Each artist will give an artist talk and demonstration during the visit.
 
Monday, March 7:  11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. artist talk by Lisa Orr in Richards Hall Rm. 118; 2-5 p.m. Demos by all three artists in Richards Hall Rm. 118.

"The Residents" opens March 11 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery

Lincoln, Neb.--“The Residents:  Selections from the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Art” will be on display at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall from March 11-25.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, March 11 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

Glenn Korff School of Music alum is Lotte Lenya competition semi-finalist

Lincoln, Neb.--University of Nebraska alumna Kayla Wilkens (M.M. 2014), is one of 31 singers selected nationwide as a semifinalist for the 19th annual Lotte Lenya Competition, sponsored by the Kurt Weill Foundation for Music.
 
More than 200 singers/actors, ages 19-32, from 11 countries, submitted audition videos of their performances of diverse repertoire from the operatic, golden age and contemporary musical theatre stage, as well as the music of Weill.
