Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists & Scholars Lecture Series begins with Murphy-Price Feb. 4

Lincoln, Neb.--Printmaker Althea Murphy-Price will present the first lecture of the spring Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists & Scholars Lecture Series on Thursday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15 on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln city campus. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Murphy-Price received her M.A. in printmaking and painting from Purdue University and her M.F.A. in printmaking from the Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Recent drawing, painting, sculpture alumni featured in next Eisentrager-Howard Gallery exhibition

Lincoln, Neb.--Opening Jan. 20 at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Eisentrager-Howard Gallery is "Continuum:  Drawing, Painting, Sculpture Alumni Invitational."

Twenty-two drawing, painting and sculpture alumni from the Department of Art and Art History will be presenting their work in the exhibition, which runs Jan. 20-Feb. 5.

A First Friday closing reception will be held on Friday, Feb. 5 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

Also, a panel discussion with the artists will be held on Friday, Feb. 5 at 4 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 14

Two recent art alums exhibit at Prescott Gallery

Lincoln, Neb.--Two recent Department of Art and Art History alumni are featured in the exhibition titled "Of the Land" at Lincoln's Prescott Gallery.

"Of the Land" is an exhibition of photographs by Nathan Kathol, a December 2015 BFA graduate from Lincoln, Neb., and wall-mounted sculptures by Chase McClaren, an August 2015 BFA graduate from Grand Island, Neb.  Both artists are recipients of the Perry Family Award.

Chiara String Quartet is the Quartet in Residence at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art this year

Lincoln, Neb.--The Chiara String Quartet is the Quartet-in-Residence this year at New York City’s Metropolitan Museum of Art. The residency consists of four concerts throughout the course of the season.

“We’ve played in New York from time to time,” said Research Associate Professor Jonah Sirota, who plays viola for the Chiara Quartet. “But this is definitely the most high profile thing we have done there recently.”

It’s a different residency from their UNL one.

Murphree's 'Five-Day Feast' Capstone project on display through Dec. 18

Lincoln, Neb.--Ian Murphree wants to feed you this week as part of his Capstone Exhibition.

“I like helping people, serving people, making things with your hands,” he said. “That’s why we do this art thing.”

His performance piece, “Five Day Feast,” is in the MEDICI Gallery on the first floor of Richards Hall Dec. 14-18. As part of the project, he serves a meal each day at noon for anyone who shows up to eat it.

Murphree says the project combines everything he has learned.

UNL's Johnny Carson School playwrights selected for festival

Lincoln, Neb.--Two student playwrights from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film have been selected to participate in the Region V Festival 48 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival National Playwriting Program January 17-23, 2016, at Normandale Community College in Bloomington, Minnesota.
