UNL's Murray to present AIA Lecture Nov. 4

Lincoln, Neb.—University of Nebraska–Lincoln Assistant Professor of Classics and Religious Studies Sarah Murray will present the first lecture on archaeology for the 2015-2016 season for the Lincoln-Omaha Society of the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA).

Murray’s lecture, titled “From Lithographs to Holograms:  The History of Images in Archaeological Research,” will be presented on Nov. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lecture is free and open to the public.

New York’s John Ellis to perform saxophone recital in Westbrook

LINCOLN, Neb.— John Ellis is widely recognized as one of New York’s premiere tenor saxophone voices and he will be having a performance at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music on November 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

A sideman to artists as diverse as bass icon John Patitucci, organ legend Dr. Lonnie Smith, and MacArthur Fellow Miguel Zenon, John has performed extensively around the world for the last 20 years.

Two exhibitions on display at Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in November

Lincoln, Neb.—Two exhibitions will be on display in November at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.
 
On display in the west and center galleries will be “Nebraska’s Best:  High School Artists from Southeast Nebraska.” The exhibition runs Nov. 6-24. A First Friday reception will be held on Nov. 6 from 6-8 p.m. Three awards of merit will be announced at 7 p.m.
 
Thirty-four students from high schools throughout southeast Nebraska will have their work on display.

Alumnus Adam Fieldson returns to UNL for Lied performance Nov. 3

Lincoln, Neb.--During his time at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Glenn Korff School of Music, alumnus Adam Fieldson performed the title role of “Candide,” Nerone in “L’incoronazione di Poppea,” Lysander in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and Romeo in “Roméo et Juliette.” On Nov. 3, the tenor returns to the UNL campus and the Lied Center for Performing Arts to perform his latest role with one of the finest touring choral groups in the nation, Cantus.

Becker, Clinton present works by two American Composers

LINCOLN, Neb.— Cellist Karen Becker and pianist Mark Clinton will present works by two American composers on Thursday, November 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Glenn Korff School of Music’s Westbrook Recital Hall at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Becker will perform John Corigliano’s Fancy On A Bach Air for cello solo, followed by Becker and Clinton playing the Sonata for Cello and Piano by Robert Muczynski. The program will conclude with the Sonata in F Major, Op. 99 of Johannes Brahms.

UNL Faculty Jazz Ensemble takes Westbrook stage November 9

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Faculty Jazz Ensemble will present a program of contemporary jazz on Monday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Glenn Korff School of Music’s Westbrook Recital Hall. Included in the program will be new original works by group members Tom Larson and Darryl White, as well compositions by saxophonists Wayne Shorter, Jerry Bergonzi and Andrew Janak.

Carson School presents 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee'

Lincoln, Neb.--The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film continues its 2015-2016 theatre season with "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee." Performances are Nov. 12-14 and 18-21 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. in the Howell Theatre.

Tickets are $18 regular, $16 faculty/staff/seniors and $12 for students and are available in advance from the Lied Center Box Office at (402) 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 or one hour prior to curtain in the Temple Lobby. Tickets may also be purchased online at https://go.unl.edu/theatretix.

Johnson returns to UNL for Alumni Masters Week

Lincoln, Neb.--Garth Johnson returns to campus in November as part of the Alumni Masters Week, Nov. 4-6, sponsored by the Nebraska Alumni Association, Scarlet Guard and the UNL Chancellor’s Office.

Johnson will present a free public lecture on Tuesday, Nov. 3 at 5:30 p.m. in Woods Art Building Rm. 11.

Johnson is curator of ceramics at the Arizona State University Art Museum in Tempe. He previously served as the Curator of Artistic Programs at The Clay Studio in Philadelphia, and spent seven years as a professor at College of the Redwoods in Eureka, California.

UNL Ceramics alum LaBar wins 1st place grant from Groot Foundation

Lincoln, Neb.--UNL Ceramics alum Ryan LaBar (MFA 2010) has received a 1st place grant from the Virginia A. Groot Foundation for his work.

“Ryan was a talented and energetic student who approached his work with a great deal of passion,” said Department of Art and Art History Chair Pete Pinnell. “He has developed his career with the same sense of passion. I’m delighted, but not surprised, to see him receiving this kind of recognition so early in his career.”

Carson School alumnus Tousley is an assistant set designer for new Disney 'Frozen' production

Lincoln, Neb.--Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film alumnus David Tousley (M.F.A. 2015), is an assistant set designer on the new stage production of “Frozen,” which opens next summer at the Hyperion Theatre at Disney’s California Adventure theme park.

He began working on the project last spring after making an earlier connection with designer Robert Brill.
