UNL Symphonic Band presents Musica Sacra

LINCOLN, Neb.— Join the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Symphonic Band, conducted by Tony Falcone with Graduate Teaching Assistant conductor Bradley Nelsen, for its program entitled Musica Sacra on December 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Works by Joaquin Turina, David Maslanka, Yo Goto, David Holsinger and Alfred Reed will be featured.

UNL Wind Ensemble presents Light and Shadow

LINCOLN, Neb.— With our imaginations fueled by tales of adventure on the big screen, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Wind Ensemble will follow Tinker Bell in flight, join Ahab on the deck of the Pequod, and get lost in space with Robby the Robot on December 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Theatrix concludes Fall season with 'Mary's Wedding'

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, a student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, will conclude its Fall season with "Mary's Wedding" by Stephen Massicotte.

Dustin Mosko, a second-year MFA directing student and Theatrix’s artistic director, will be directing the play.

Chamber Singers to provide festive music at Sheldon Museum of Art

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska’s Glenn Korff School of Music Chamber Singers will, once again, give a brief performance at the Sheldon Museum of Art FIRST FRIDAY celebration at 5 p.m. on December 4th.

The program will include festive music suitable to the occasion and appropriate to the upcoming Holiday Season. Following a few selections in the main hall, the singers, joined by an 8-piece brass ensemble will reconvene in the auditorium with comfortable seating and recital stage.

LINCOLN, Neb.— The term “wet ink” refers to the process that composers used before they had computer software to aid in writing music. They would write music with a fountain pen and paper and new music could be premiered before the ink was even dry.

Trumpet Studio takes center stage in Westbrook

LINCOLN, Neb.— The UNL Glenn Korff School of Music Trumpet Studio will perform music arranged specifically for Trumpet Ensemble on Monday, November 30 at 7 p.m. in the Westbrook Recital Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.

The group’s program will consist of music written by J.S. Bach, Giovanni Palestrina, Verne Reynolds and others. Also included on the program is an original composition for solo trumpet and piano written by Colleen Carney from the UNL piano studio.

IHCA results from August competition announced

LINCOLN, Neb.— The 2015 International Horn Competition of America took place August 28-30 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music in Lincoln, NE.  The hosts for the competition were Dr. Alan Mattingly, Professor of Horn at UNL, and Dr. Jacqueline Mattingly, Lecturer of Music History and Chief Advisor for BA and BM degrees at UNL.  The competition has been in existence for more than 30 years and remains one of the most prestigious events for solo horn performance in the world.
