Get ‘In the Groove’ with the UNL Symphonic Band

LINCOLN, Neb.— Join the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Symphonic Band, conducted by Tony Falcone, as they close their 2014-2015 season with a program entitled, ‘In the Groove!’ on April 26 at 3 p.m. in the Kimball Recital Hall.

You’ll hear music with a “beat” by Dana Wilson, John Mackey, Ben Hjertmann (a Nebraska Premiere,) Edward Fairlie, Scott McAllister and Brian Balmages. With movement titles like “More Cowbell” and “Serenity Now,” a fun time is guaranteed for all.

Evenings of Dance includes amazing collaboration

LINCOLN, Neb.— Dancers, drummers and laptops. It’s not a combination that one sees very often placed together, but it is on the program for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music dance program’s Evenings of Dance performances coming up April 16-19 in the Johnny Carson Theater at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Students from Lincoln Public Schools enjoy Jazz Day lead by UNL

About 60 Lincoln Public School students took part in a Jazz Day, led by University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Associate Professor of Composition and Jazz Studies Dr. Eric Richards and members of the UNL Jazz Orchestra, at Lincoln Southeast High School on Thursday, April 2.

 

Bob Krueger, who directs the Lincoln Southeast Jazz Bands, said the day came together out of a conversation between Dr. Richards and himself.

Talking about 'Medea'

 UNL’s Department of Classics and Religious Studies with the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film present “Talking About Medea” a lecture, workshop and discussion series connected to UNL University Theatre’s production of Medea by Euripides, translated by Diane Arnson Svarlien and directed by Laura Lippman.

All events are free and open to the public. Post-performance talks are available to those who have seen any performance of Medea.

Campus Bands performance live in Kimball, Webcast to the world

LINCOLN, Neb.— The UNL Campus Bands will be presenting a concert of two halves on April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Glenn Korff School of Music’s Kimball Recital Hall.

The performance of the Donald A. Lentz Concert Band titled: “Music from the Vernacular”, will begin the program and feature settings of folk songs, blues, gospel, jazz, rock and dixieland. That portion of the evening will feature music by Biedenbender, Kopetz, Rousse, Singleton and Standridge.

Nebraska Young Artist Award winners announced

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts has announced the winners of the 18th annual Nebraska Young Artist Awards.

      The Nebraska Young Artist Awards annually recognize 11th grade students from Nebraska who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and new media. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.

LINCOLN, Neb.— The histories of the wind band and jazz are inextricably linked and the jazz idiom is a natural touchstone for contemporary composers in the concert band medium. The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Wind Ensemble concert on April 22 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall features four distinct perspectives on jazz.

Big Red Singers plan high-energy show for final concert of the year

LINCOLN, Neb.— In its final concert for the year on April 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall, the Big Red Singers will perform both a high-energy choreographed show as well as a choral surprise in the form of a performance of Bernstein’s thrilling Chichester Psalms: an exciting contemporary choral-orchestral work that showcases the incredible flexibility and range of the Big Red Singers and instrumentalists from the Glenn Korff School of Music. Theatrix presents New Artists Festival 2015

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, a student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, will finish its 2014-2015 season with a New Artists Festival, a performing arts showcase involving students from theatre, music, dance, visual art, and architecture. Performances are April 9, 10, and 11 at 7:30 p.m. and April 12 at 2 p.m. in the Lab Theatre, third floor of the Temple Building at 12th & R Streets. Tickets are a flat rate of $6.

Concert to showcase three Glenn Korff School of Music brass ensembles

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Large Brass Ensembles within the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 20 in the Westbrook Recital Hall.

The recital promises to have something for everyone, and will feature works by well-known composers such as Richard Wagner and Stephen Foster, but will also include pieces by UNL composers Anthony Burnham and Daniel Baldwin. There will even be movie music from “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and “Titanic.”
