UNL’s Bailey to perform standards and rarely heard flute repertoire

LINCOLN, Neb.— Glenn Korff School of Music Larson Professor of Flute, John Bailey, assisted by Hixson-Lied Professor of Piano, Mark Clinton, will give a recital of standards and rarely heard flute repertoire on Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Campus. The performance is free and open to the public.

UNL’s Sturm, Larson combine to perform Wildman

LINCOLN, Neb.— University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Dr. Hans Sturm’s faculty recital will feature UNL faculty jazz pianist and composer, Tom Larson on January 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Westbrook Recital Hall. They will perform the music of Dr. Joan Wildman, Professor Emeritus of Jazz Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

UNL’s Celebration of American Song to honor Kurt Weill

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music is proud to present the eleventh annual Celebration of American Song on January 26 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. This year’s celebration honors Kurt Weill. As a composer, Weill composed hundreds of songs. His songs have been performed by Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Michael Bublé, Stevie Wonder, Patti Lupone, Kristin Chenoweth, Ella Fitzgerald, and so many others including his wife, Lotte Lenya.

Department of Art and Art History faculty, staff featured in next exhibition at Eisentrager-Howard Gallery

Lincoln, Neb.—Twenty-six faculty and staff members from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Department of Art and Art History will show their work in a variety of media in the “Faculty and Staff Exhibition,” opening Jan. 21 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.
 
The exhibition continues through Feb. 6 and will conclude with a First Friday closing reception on Feb. 6 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

Glenn Korff School of Music faculty combine for night of music

LINCOLN, Neb.— University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music faculty Diane Barger, Mark Clinton and Jeff McCray will combine to present a night of music in Kimball Recital Hall on January 21 at 7:30 p.m.

This recital program features two “bookends” of works originally composed for clarinet, bassoon, and piano (Hurlstone’s Variations in G minor and Douglas’s Trio #2) and two compositions written for clarinet, piano, and a string instrument (viola – Bruch’s Acht Stücke, op. 83; and cello – Muczynski’s Fantasy Trio, op. 26).

Becker to perform world premiere at upcoming recital

LINCOLN, Neb.— Glenn Korff School of Music Professor of Cello Karen Becker and guest pianist Jay Mauchley will perform the world premiere of Laurence Sherr’s Sonata for Cello and Piano: Mir zaynen do! as part of her recital on Thursday, January 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Kiplinger names UNL a 'best value' university

Lincoln, Neb.--Kiplinger’s Personal Finance has named UNL among its Top 100 Best Values in Public Colleges for 2015. The university checked in at No. 68, joining 11 other Big Ten schools on the annual list.

UNL was No. 83 in 2014.

Students in Color and Composition class recreate famous artworks for visually impaired

Lincoln, Neb.--Students in Associate Professor of Art Sandra Williams’ Color and Composition class this Fall completed a project to recreate works of art in a tactual manner to be displayed at the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired (NCECBVI) in Nebraska City, Nebraska.

The project challenged students to think about their art in a whole new manner.
