Kiplinger names UNL a 'best value' university

Lincoln, Neb.--Kiplinger’s Personal Finance has named UNL among its Top 100 Best Values in Public Colleges for 2015. The university checked in at No. 68, joining 11 other Big Ten schools on the annual list.

UNL was No. 83 in 2014.

Students in Color and Composition class recreate famous artworks for visually impaired

Lincoln, Neb.--Students in Associate Professor of Art Sandra Williams’ Color and Composition class this Fall completed a project to recreate works of art in a tactual manner to be displayed at the Nebraska Center for the Education of Children Who Are Blind or Visually Impaired (NCECBVI) in Nebraska City, Nebraska.

The project challenged students to think about their art in a whole new manner.

Printmaking graduate student receives Caxton Club Grant

Lincoln, Neb.--Keith Graham, a second-year Master of Fine Arts student with an emphasis in printmaking in the Department of Art and Art History, has received a Caxton Club Grant for his upcoming book arts project.
 
The Caxton Club of Chicago was founded in 1895 by 15 Chicago bibliophiles, who desired to support the publication of fine books in the spirit of the prevailing arts and crafts movement. Today they sponsor bibliophile events, often in collaboration with the Newberry Library.

Bolcom coming to UNL as first-ever Bybee Endowed Visiting Professor of Opera

LINCOLN, Neb.— William Bolcom, who was named 2007 Composer of the Year by Musical America and honored with multiple Grammy Awards for his ground-breaking setting of Blake’s Songs of Innocence and of Experience, will be in residence at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music late January as the inaugural appointee to the Ariel Bybee Endowed Visiting Professor of Opera.

Internet2 Day at Nebraska featured a long-distance musical rehearsal

Lincoln, Neb.--A long-distance musical rehearsal between the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Chiara String Quartet and Northern Illinois University’s Avalon Quartet highlighted UNL’s Internet2 Day at Nebraska on Nov. 13.

A night of Musical Theatre not to be missed!

LINCOLN, Neb.— If you love musical theatre, the Musical Theatre Showcase night on Friday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m. is not to be missed.

Nine scenes from both classic and more contemporary musicals will be performed in a 50-minute, free performance by UNL’s award-winning musical theatre students in the Glenn Korff School of Music Westbrook Recital Hall on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.

UNLSO prepares for all-Beethoven program

LINCOLN, Neb.— David Neely, violin, Karen Becker, cello, and Ann Chang, piano, join with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Symphony Orchestra in Beethoven’s Triple Concerto on an all-Beethoven program, featuring the composer’s Wellington’s Victory and his Symphony No. 7 in A major on December 11 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Theatrix presents 'Wildflower' Dec. 4-7

Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, a student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, concludes its Fall season with “Wildflower” by Lila Rose Kaplan and directed by senior Jessica Debolt of Mahomet, Illinois.

Performances are Dec. 4-6 at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. in the Lab Theatre, which is located on the 3rd floor of the Temple Building at 12th and R sts. Tickets are $6 and available in advance at unltheatretickets.com or at the door.
