Eklund receives NCDA's Outstanding Choral Director Award

Lincoln, Neb.--University of Nebraska–Lincoln Professor and Director of Choral Activities Peter Eklund received the Nebraska Choral Directors Association’s Outstanding Choral Director Award on Nov. 21 during the Nebraska Music Educators Association’s fall conference.

Katz rediscovers 1842 Walt Whitman poem

Lincoln, Neb.--Associate Professor of Art History Wendy Katz has rediscovered a new poem by Walt Whitman. While researching art criticism in the penny newspapers, as a Smithsonian Senior Fellow in Washington, D.C., she found a poem in the June 23, 1842, issue of the “New Era,” by “W.W.”

The poem, “To Bryant, the Poet of Nature,” addresses William Cullen Bryant, an American romantic poet and editor of the New York Evening Post.

Lied Center to host rare Yo-Yo Ma Lecture Dec. 5

Lincoln, Neb.--On Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m., the Lied Center for Performing Arts will present world-renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma in a very rare lecture as part of the E.N. Thompson Forum on World Issues. UNL Fine Art Photo Club Sale is Dec. 5-6

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Fine Art Photo Club will be having their Annual Print sale Dec. 5-6 in Richards Hall Rm. 121 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. A variety of photographs will be available for sale, including traditionally printed darkroom photos and archival digital prints, at a range of price points.

Big Red Singers, Vocal Jazz ready to energize

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Big Red Singers and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble will each take to the Kimball Recital Hall stage on December 10 at 7:30 pm. as part of a University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music performance.

The Big Red Singers will take the stage to present an electrifying performance of energizing and uplifting music. The show will include the music of Cher, Justin Timberlake, and many others, as well as featuring outstanding student-soloists, a fantastic show band, and the world-premiere of an arrangement of Kevin Rudolf’s “Welcome To The World.”

Student Dance Project reaches its 10th year

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music in the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing arts presents the 10th annual Student Dance Project, directed by Susan Levine Ourada, on Friday, December 5 and Saturday, December 6 in the Mabel Lee Hall Dance Space (Room 304/310, 14th and Vine Streets). The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. each night. 

The Student Dance Project is a program of original work by student choreographers.

Hall’s percussion performance takes over the Kimball stage

LINCOLN, Neb.— University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Faculty Dave Hall will present a solo concert of contemporary works for marimba, drums, “junk” percussion, and processed electronic sounds on December 8 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Featured composers include Alejandro Viñao, John Serry, John Psathas, and 2014 Pulitzer Prize winner, John Luther Adams.

The performance is free and open to the public.

Traditional Cocoa & Carols returns to Kimball in December

LINCOLN, Neb.— On December 7 in Kimball Recital Hall, the combined traditional University of Nebraska-Lincoln choirs will combine for an exciting holiday-inspired massed choral performance of seasonal favorites titled COCOA & CAROLS: A FAMILY YULETIDE FESTIVAL OF CHOIRS. The concerts are scheduled for 3 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets (General Admission $5; Students/Seniors $3) are available at the door.
