Glenn Korff School of Music receives major gift from James and Rhonda Seacrest for Nebraska opera outreach

Lincoln, Neb.—The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts announced a major gift from James and Rhonda Seacrest, of Lincoln, Nebraska, during a freshman student recital at the Glenn Korff School of Music on Aug. 24.

The Seacrests have made a contribution to the University of Nebraska Foundation for the Glenn Korff School of Music to create the James C. and Rhonda Seacrest Tour Nebraska Opera Fund.

Johnson delighted to be awarded as third in nation

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music had six national semifinalists in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) “National NATS Student Auditions" this summer at UNC-Greensboro in early July.

The students included: Jeremy Brown (student of Alisa Belflower), Angela Gilbert (student of Alisa Belflower), Kathleen Johnson (student of Kate Butler), Nicholas Prior (student of Alisa Belflower), Thomas Stoysich (student of Jamie Reimer) and Ryan White (student of Bill Shomos).

Maestro Hal France to preview Lincoln, Omaha Opera Aug. 16

Lincoln, Neb.--Showcasing talented young performers from UNL Opera, nationally acclaimed Maestro Hal France takes a conductor’s view of operatic storytelling for "Opera:  Running Through Us" on Sunday, Aug. 16 at 1 p.m. at the Van Brunt Visitors Center. Using classic video and audio footage and live performance he will share his insights into this extraordinary art form. Along with examples chosen to highlight opera’s uniqueness, he will include golden moments from productions coming to Lincoln and Omaha this season.

Glenn Korff School of Music goes global with webcasting

More than 4,000 unique users from all over the world watched more than 102,000 minutes of 39 concerts webcast this academic year by the Glenn Korff School of Music. In addition, 1,500 people watched more than 6,000 minutes per month of the archived videos posted on YouTube.

“It’s been a remarkably happy success,” said Glenn Korff School of Music Director John W. Richmond as he summed up the first full year of webcasting selected concerts.

The idea for webcasting began many years ago.

Cornhusker Marching Band takes over Memorial Stadium

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Cornhusker Marching Band’s annual exhibition performance will take place Friday, August 21 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.

You'll see highlights of what the Cornhusker Marching Band has been working on during their pre-season Band Camp, including the famous "drill down," a preview of the first halftime show and hear many more Husker favorites.
