Art historian Wescoat to present Hixson-Lied Visiting Scholar Lecture Nov. 8

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.

The next lecture in the series will be presented by Art Historian Bonna Wescoat on Wednesday, Nov. 8 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. Wescoat’s lecture is free and open to the public.

MEDICI hosts annual fund-raiser Nov. 9

Lincoln, Neb.--The annual MEDICI exhibition will be on display Nov. 3-8 at the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall, culminating in their annual fund-raiser Nov. 9.

The exhibition previews the works available for the art sale and silent auction at the fund-raising event. Art by Nebraska-educated and supporting artists will be sold to purchase new equipment and improve facilities in the School of Art, Art History & Design.

$1 Million-plus endowment from Worths will support arts at Nebraska

Lincoln, Neb.—A newly established, permanent endowment on behalf of a late University of Nebraska–Lincoln professor and his family will mean increased access and opportunity for students seeking education in the arts at Nebraska, as well as key support for research and professional growth in the university’s Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.

Strong showing by GKSOM at West Central NATS

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music had a strong showing at the West Central National Association of the Teachings of Singing Student Auditions this past weekend at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.

UNL Saxophone Studio presents ‘Four By Four’

LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s saxophone studio will present a recital “Four By Four” at 7:30 p.m., Monday, November 13 in the Westbrook Recital Hall.

The recital is directed by Paul Haar, associate professor of music, with assistance from Nick Snow. The program will feature four saxophone quartets presenting a variety of literature (both original and transcription) for the saxophone quartet. Featured composers include Bolcom, Ramsoe, Schumann, Jean Jean, Glazounov and Singlee.

Moran Quintet to premiere McAllister’s ‘OK Quintet’

Lincoln, Neb.--The Moran Woodwind Quintet’s fall recital on Nov. 15 will feature the premiere of a commissioned piece by Scott McAllister titled “OK Quintet.”

The recital is at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall Rm. 119. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Moran Woodwind Quintet is the resident faculty quintet at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln and includes John Bailey, flute; Diane Barger, clarinet; Alan Mattingly, horn; Jeffrey McCray, bassoon; and William McMullen, oboe.

Concerto Solo Competition winners announced

LINCOLN, Neb.— The winners of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music 2017 Concerto Solo Competition have been announced. On the Graduate level, Jordan Redd (horn) and Liping Xia (piano) were named the winners with Hayley Shoemaker (mezzo soprano) and Evan van Breemen (flute) named as honorable mention. On the Undergraduate level, Anthony McIntosh (marimba) and Hannah Willard (violin) were named the winners with Riley Beranek (cello) and Alyssa Pracht (oboe) named as honorable mention.

UNL Opera program presents ‘Don Pasquale’

The Glenn Korff School of Music’s UNL opera program presents “Don Pasquale” by Gaetano Donizetti and directed by Professor and Director of Opera William Shomos and conducted by Professor and Director of Orchestras Tyler White.

Performances are Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.
