UNL Opera program presents ‘Don Pasquale’
The Glenn Korff School of Music’s UNL opera program presents “Don Pasquale” by Gaetano Donizetti and directed by Professor and Director of Opera William Shomos and conducted by Professor and Director of Orchestras Tyler White.
Performances are Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Play with the Chiara winner announced
The Chiara String Quartet and judges Catherine Herbener and Hans Sturm are excited to announce Maya Abboud, violist (M.M.) as the winner and Ye-Eun Lyla Cho, violinist (M.M.) as the alternate winner of the Play with the Chiaras Audition. Maya Abboud will collaborate and perform with the Chiara Quartet on January 31st as part of the Hixson-Lied Concert Series at Kimball Recital Hall.

Clarinetist Banks returns for Masters Week
Christy Banks (B.M. 1996; D.M.A. 2005), assistant chair and associate professor of music and coordinator of woodwinds at Millersville University of Pennsylvania, is this year’s Masters Week candidate from the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts.

UNL Faculty Jazz Ensemble performance to include new music from members
LINCOLN, Neb.— On November 6, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Faculty Jazz Ensemble will perform its fall concert in Westbrook Recital Hall. The concert will feature new music by Greg Simon, Hans Sturm, and Tom Larson. Also featured is an appearance by renowned jazz vocalist Jackie Allen. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Souto named Director of School of Art, Art History & Design
Lincoln, Neb.—Professor of Art Francisco Souto has been named the Director of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design. He begins his new appointment on Jan. 1, 2018.
“I am pleased that Francisco Souto has accepted our invitation to lead the School of Art, Art History & Design,” said Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Endowed Dean Chuck O’Connor. “This is an exciting time in the School’s history, and I know Francisco will provide bold, steady leadership.”

Nebraska Repertory Theatre presents 'The Serpent'
Lincoln, Neb.--The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film with the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts announces the second production of the 2017-2018 Nebraska Repertory Theatre season. The state’s only regional professional theatre opens The Serpent by Jean-Claude van Itallie directed by Wesley Broulik with movement direction by guest artist Morgan Barbour beginning November 3.

Photographer Adams to present Hixson-Lied Visiting Scholar Lecture Oct. 26
Lincoln, Neb--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.
The next lecture in the series will be presented by Photographer David Emitt Adams on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in Woods Art Building Rm. 11. Adams’s lecture is free and open to the public.

Theatrix opens season with 'Nebraska: Nice'
Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will open its 2017-2018 season with Nebraska: Nice, written and directed by Carson School students Hunter Mruz and Lindsey Parodi.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26-28, and 2 p.m. on Oct. 29. All performances take place in the Lab Theatre in the Temple Building at 12th and R Streets. Nebraska: Nice contains mature language and themes that may not be suitable for all audiences.
