Photographer Adams to present Hixson-Lied Visiting Scholar Lecture Oct. 26
Lincoln, Neb--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.
The next lecture in the series will be presented by Photographer David Emitt Adams on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in Woods Art Building Rm. 11. Adams’s lecture is free and open to the public.

Theatrix opens season with 'Nebraska: Nice'
Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, will open its 2017-2018 season with Nebraska: Nice, written and directed by Carson School students Hunter Mruz and Lindsey Parodi.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Oct. 26-28, and 2 p.m. on Oct. 29. All performances take place in the Lab Theatre in the Temple Building at 12th and R Streets. Nebraska: Nice contains mature language and themes that may not be suitable for all audiences.

Sheinberg book receives U.K. honors
Lincoln, Neb.--"Rethinking J.S. Bach's 'The Art of Fugue,'" a book edited by Associate Professor of Practice Esti Sheinberg, was chosen in the United Kingdom as one of the five core titles for 2016 in music.
Each quarter GOBI Library Solutions releases a segment of U.K. Core Titles, involving U.K. subject-specialist bibliographers selecting these titles from the new academic titles published in the United Kingdom.

Final rounds of Concerto Competitions coming at end of October

Fritz releases book with photographs that explore world’s largest enclosed landscapes
Lincoln, Neb.--Professor of Art Dana Fritz’s photographs explore the world’s largest enclosed landscapes. A new book on the series, “Terraria Gigantica: The World under Glass,” (University of New Mexico Press) has recently been published.
Fritz will present a public lecture at 5:30 p.m. followed by a book signing on Thursday, Nov. 2 at Sheldon Museum of Art.
Fritz began thinking about the project after visiting several Victorian glasshouse conservatories, such as the Kew Gardens in England.

Carson Center to co-host Google Cloud conversation
Lincoln, Neb.—Megan Elliott, Director of the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts and Brendan Harkin, founder and director of X-Media Lab, are hosting a Nebraska Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data-Driven Innovation Meetup featuring Josh Ellis, customer engineer for Google Cloud Platform.
The meetup is Monday, Nov. 6 from 5-7 p.m. at Fuse Coworking Space, 151 N 8th St., 5th floor, in Lincoln. The event is free and open to the public.

Grad Jazz Combo, Vocal Jazz Ensemble combine for recital
LINCOLN, Neb.— The Graduate Jazz Combo I and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble will combine for a night of performance on Tuesday, October 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall. The Graduate Jazz Combo I will perform three pieces by graduate student Andrew Janak, including For GK as well as a piece by Christian Chesanek. The Vocal Jazz Ensemble will perform Bli Bip, You are There and By Fire.
