Second-year MFA students display work in exhibition at Eisentrager-Howard Gallery

Lincoln, Neb.—“Flux,” an exhibition featuring the work of 2nd year Master of Fine Arts students in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design, is on display now through Sept. 15 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.

A reception will be held on First Friday, Sept. 1 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.

The seven students participating in the exhibition are Scott Cochran, Kat Cox, Lindsey Day, Nicholas Sheldon, Iren Tete, Mallory Trecaso and Erik White, all of whom are in the second year of their graduate program.

Korff School doctoral student wins Golden Classical Music Awards International Competition in piano

Lincoln, Neb.--Yanbing Dong, a Doctor of Musical Arts student in the Glenn Korff School of Music, won the Golden Classical Music Awards International Competition in piano (senior division) and will be performing in New York City at Carnegie Hall on Nov. 4.

“I was simply thrilled after I learned the news through e-mail, but immediately realized the importance of the upcoming performance in New York City,” Dong said. “This will be my solo debut at Carnegie Hall. I think performing at Carnegie Hall is, undoubtedly, a momentous event, and I feel very privileged to be a part of it.”

Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists Series begins Aug. 30 with sculptor Kuksi

Lincoln, Neb.--The University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.

Opening the series is a lecture by Sculptor Kris Kuksi on Wednesday, Aug. 30 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. Kuksi’s lecture is free and open to the public.

Big Red Singers exhibition coming Saturday, August 19

LINCOLN, Neb.— The 2017-2018 Big Red Singers will make its debut in Kimball Recital Hall by performing select titles of recent Nebraska Show Choir Camp songs on Saturday, August 19 at 7:30 p.m.

The exhibition is a high-energy performance of singing and expert choreography that will conclude a week of rehearsals. The concert is free and open to the public, but patrons are advised to come early to get the best seats. It will be a performance to remember!

Johnson, Adrenaline victorious at Rising Star competition

Jadyn Johnson is a Barberbrat. The senior Music Education major at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music is a third generation barbershopper as her grandpa got her family into singing barbershop.

This past weekend, Johnson, along with three other members of her quartet, Adrenaline, won the 2017 Rising Star Competition (the International Youth Division). The Rising Star competition is part of the Sweet Adelines International Quartet Contest that took place August 5 at the University of Maryland, College Park, Md.

Cornhusker Marching Band takes over Memorial Stadium

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Cornhusker Marching Band’s annual exhibition performance will take place Friday, August 18 at 7 p.m. in Memorial Stadium on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus.

You'll see highlights of what the Cornhusker Marching Band has been working on during its pre-season Band Camp, including the famous "drill down," a preview of the first halftime show and hear many more Husker favorites.

Johnson placing first highlights GKSOM success at NATS National Student Auditions

Recent University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Glenn Korff School of Music graduate Kathleen (Kate) Johnson won the Upper College (Junior and Seniors) Women’s Classical Vocal category at the NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing) 2017 National Student Auditions (NSA) in Boulder, Colorado on Friday. Johnson was a student of Kate Butler at Nebraska. 

Current student Tyler Cox was the third-place winner in the Lower College (Freshmen and Sophomore) Men’s Musical Theatre category. Cox is a student of Alisa Belflower.

Nebraska Rep, Lied Center announce production change for March 2018

Lincoln, Neb.--The Nebraska Repertory Theatre and the Lied Center for Performing Arts announce a change in production for their March, 2018 joint venture.
 
The new production is AVENUE Q by Jeff Whitley, music & lyrics by Robert Lopez & Jeff Marx. Dates of production remain the same: March 2 - March 16, 2018, at the Lied Center’s Johnny Carson Theater.

Carson School students study abroad at Globe Theatre in England

Lincoln, Neb.--Sixteen students from the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film and one student from the College of Journalism and Mass Communications studied internationally this summer at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London, England, thanks in part to support from the Hixson-Lied Endowment.

Assistant Professor of Practice Wesley Broulik, who accompanied the students to London, said the experience was life-changing for the students.

Nebraska Repertory Theatre announces its 2017-2018 season

Lincoln, Neb.--The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film with the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts announces the relaunch of the Nebraska Repertory Theatre. The state’s only regional professional theatre will offer a five-production season beginning September 30, 2017.
