Photographer Grant presents Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist Lecture Feb. 2
Lincoln, Neb.--Photographer Allison Grant will present the next lecture of the Hixson-Lied Visiting Artists & Scholars Lecture Series on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Grives to lead Chamber Singers during Spring Semester
Dr. Steve Grives has been named Director of the Chamber Singers for the Spring 2017 semester at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music. A native of New York, Dr. Grives earned the DMA in Choral Literature and Performance from the University of Colorado, an MM in Choral Conducting from the University of Maine, and a BA in Music from Bowdoin College.

Barnes to celebrate 80th birthday of composer Philip Glass with retrospective recital
Lincoln, Neb.--Marguerite Scribante Professor of Piano Paul Barnes will present a recital to celebrate the 80th birthday of composer Philip Glass on Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.
"Paul Barnes and Friends: Philip Glass 80th Birthday Celebration" is free and open to the public. The concert will also be live webcast. Visit https://music.unl.edu the day of the performance for the link.
Long-time friend and collaborator Barnes will offer a musical celebration for the Lincoln community.

UNL Percussion Ensemble presents ‘Hands On’
LINCOLN, Neb.— The award-winning University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Percussion Ensemble presents “Hands On”, an energetic evening of music on Tuesday, February 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.
The night features hand percussion, clapping, and musical styles including flamenco, afro-cuban, and jazz. Selections include José / beFore John 5, by Aurel Hollo; Clapping Music by Steve Reich, Fandango 13 by Michael Burritt; Fanfare for Tambourines by John Alfieri, Rancho Jubilee by Andrew Beall, and The First Circle by Pat Metheny.

Parallel Visions exhibit includes 2 from School of Art, Art History & Design
Lincoln, Neb.—Two artists from the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design will present their work at Parallel Visions in February in an exhibition titled “Crosswise Arrangements.”
As February is African American History Month, Sculptor and alumnus Nathan Murray (B.F.A. 2009) and 2nd year graduate student in Photography Zora J. Murff present an exhibition Feb. 3-10 that takes a critical look at race relations in America today, while also acknowledging the necessity for empathy and communication.

Lefferts releases book on early English church music
Lincoln, Neb.--Peter M. Lefferts, Professor and Interim Director of the Glenn Korff School of Music, has released a new book titled “Manuscripts of English Thirteenth-Century Polyphony (Early English Church Music).”
The book was released Nov. 1, 2016, by Stainer & Bell, Ltd.

Reimer, Fountain to combine for ‘Songs From The Parlor’
LINCOLN, Neb.— Music making in the home has long been a staple of the Western classical tradition. From the early Italian operas to Schubert’s evenings of music, where friends gathered, music was made – in celebration, in commemoration, in mourning. This was no different in nineteenth century America. Around the middle of the century, art music appeared as a viable compositional endeavor, particularly in the Northeast, and a new era in composition took form.

Chiara’s ‘Premiered and Loved’ concert to include world premiere
LINCOLN, Neb.— On Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at 7:30pm, the Chiara String Quartet will be performing the third concert of the 2016-2017 Hixson-Lied Concert Series at Kimball Recital Hall (11th and R Streets). The program, titled “Premiered and Loved” will feature the world premiere of Rome Prize-winner Pierre Jalbert’s Canticle (String Quartet No. 6), commissioned for the Chiara Quartet by the UNL’s Glenn Korff School of Music with support from the Hixson-Lied Endowment, as well as a reprise of another audience-favorite Chiara commission, String Quartet No.
