More than 20 UNL Glenn Korff School of Music student ensembles to perform in April
As the Spring semester at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln draws to a close, there will be more than 20 student ensemble performances during the month of April as a part of the Glenn Korff School of Music.
Here is a look at each of the upcoming student ensembles:
Singing Small Festival Performance, April 1, 7 p.m., Kimball Recital Hall
Groups include: UNL Vocal Jazz, Pitch Please, Rocktavo, and Chamber Singers and more. Tickets: Free and open to the public.

UNL'S Syron wins 3 Neptune Award for design work
UNL Assistant Professor of Practice Colleen Syron won three 2013 Neptune Awards from the Marine Marketers of America (MMA) for her design work for Sea Tow Services International.
Syron is the creative director and owner of Syron Design, which began branding Sea Tow Services International in 2008.
Seventeen independent judges from all sectors of the industry score the entries, which recognize the very best marketing work in the North American marine marketplace.

UNL'S Tyler White wins Silver Medal for composition in Global Music Awards
Tyler White, professor of composition and conducting and Director of Orchestras in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Glenn Korff School of Music, has won a silver medal in composition in the Global Music Awards for his opera, "O Pioneers!"
Set against the panoramic sweep of the southern Nebraska prairie, "O Pioneers!" tells the story of Alexandra Bergson, a fiercely independent landowner whose devotion to her land and its promise may cost her the love of her life.

Actress and Director Judith Ivey will present the next Geske Lecture
Actress and Director Judith Ivey will present the next Geske Lecture on Monday, April 14 at 7 p.m. in Sheldon Museum of Art’s Ethel S. Abbott Auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public. A reception will follow the lecture in the Great Hall.
Judith Ivey will share an evening of videos, photos and anecdotes from her 40 years as a professional actor and director, both onstage and on screen.

Graduate ceramist has works featured in '500 Figures in Clay'
Crisha Yantis, a third-year Master of Fine Arts in ceramics student from Olympia, Wash., has two pieces featured in the book “500 Figures in Clay Vol. 2” by Lark Ceramics.
The book series features the best contemporary work in fields such as ceramics, jewelry making, woodworking and more. The first entry in the series, “500 Teapots” was published in 2002, and since then, more than 35 books have followed. “500 Figures in Clay” was juried by ceramic artist Nan Smith. Each piece had to be based on and recognizable as the human form.

Several from Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts win Mayor's Arts Awards
Several people from UNL were among the winners of the 2014 Mayor's Arts Awards announced March 12 by Mayor Chris Beutler and the Lincoln Arts Council. The awards formally recognize artistic contributions and achievements in the Lincoln area and will be presented the evening of May 28 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. University of Nebraska Brass Quintet to perform commissioned work by Bruce Broughton

The University of Nebraska Brass Quintet will be performing two works by composer Bruce Broughton, including the premiere of “NeBRASSka,” co-commissioned by the Glenn Korff School of Music and the Lied Center for Performing Arts, at their next concert on Monday, March 17.

27th Annual Undergraduate Art Competition Opens March 17 at Eisentrager-Howard Gallery
The 27th Annual Undergraduate Art Competition opens March 17 and continues through March 28 at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.
The exhibition includes the artwork of 33 undergraduate students who have been enrolled in a studio art class in the Department of Art and Art History at UNL within the last 12 months.

"Phostimum" show opens First Friday
"Phostimum," a collection of photographs by UNL Department of Art and Art History student photographers will open at The Pilgrimer in Lincoln on First Friday, April 4, with an opening reception from 8-10 p.m.
UNL Fine Art Photo Club President Drew Davis, a junior in the Department of Art and Art History, came up with the name for the show, saying, "Phos is the Greek root of photo, meaning light. Plus 'timum' from optimum. Optimium light = Phostimum."
