UNL Glenn Korff School of Music opera program to present Cendrillon (Cinderella)
The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music's opera program will present Jules Massenet's "Cendrillon" (Cinderella) on Feb. 21 and 23. The performances will be directed by Hixson-Lied Professor of Voice and Director of Opera William Shomos.
Performances are Feb. 21 at 7:30 p.m. and Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall, 11th and R sts. Tickets are $20 adults and $10 for students/seniors. They are available in advance from the Lied Center Box Office at (402) 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 or at the door.

UNL Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film students win awards at Region V Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival
The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film hosted the Region V Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) January 19-25, 2014. Just more than 1,500 faculty and students from colleges and universities in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota and Missouri attended productions, participated in workshops and competed for awards and the opportunity to represent Region V at the national Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) in Washington, D.C., in April.

Glenn Korff School of Music's Peter Eklund conducting at NYC's Carnegie Hall this Sunday
Professor and Director of Choral Activities Peter Eklund will be conducting a massed honor choir with professional orchestra at New York City’s Carnegie Hall this Sunday, Feb. 16.
Eklund will be conducting one of the classical music era’s most endearing choral orchestra works, “Mass in G,” by Franz Schubert.
He also hired the soloists for the work. All three are professional New York singers and former choral students of Eklund’s, including two from UNL: Arica Coleman (B.M. 2012) and Adam Fieldson (M.M. 2013 and B.M. 2010).

Chiara String Quartet’s concert series continues
UPDATE: The University of Nebraska-Lincoln will be closed this evening due to weather conditions. This includes the Chiara String Quartet performance in Kimball Recital Hall beginning at 7:30 p.m.
An announcement about the possibility of rescheduling of this event will be sent out through press releases and other social media tomorrow.

Chiara String Quartet performance cancelled
Due to the snowstorm on Tuesday night (Feb. 4), the Chiara String Quartet performance scheduled for Kimball Recital Hall at the Glenn Korff School of Music was cancelled. It has been determined that the concert will not be rescheduled for this semester.
Patrons who purchased tickets for the event have two options:
· Get a refund on the purchased ticket for Feb. 4 (please return the ticket to the Lied Center Box Office no later than Feb. 15)
· Trade the ticket for the March 20 Chiara String Quartet performance at Kimball Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Glenn Korff School of Music's Christopher Marks will present a faculty recital of virtuosic solo organ music spanning the late 19th century to the early 21st century at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 28 in Kimball Recital Hall. The event is free and open to the public.

Visiting Artist Alexander Heilner to present a public lecture on Feb. 6
Alexander Heilner, a multi-disciplinary artist who works in photography, video, digital imaging, installation, lighting design and sculpture, will present a free public lecture on Thursday, Feb. 6 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15 on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln city campus.
His visit to the Department of Art and Art History is made possible with support from the Hixson-Lied Endowment.

Souto Featured in Drawing Magazine
Associate Professor of Art Francisco Souto is featured in the current Winter 2014 issue of Drawing Magazine in an article about his work titled “In Search of Lost Time, Pencil in Hand.”
Drawing Magazine is the premier, national, quarterly publication focused entirely on drawing. The magazine explores technique and materials, but also reviews contemporary artists such as Antony Gormley, Kiki Smith, Chuck Close, Amy Cutler and now Souto.

Medici Event Was a Great Success
MEDICI, a friends group that supports the Department of Art and Art History at University of Nebraska–Lincoln held its annual fund-raiser event on Thursday, Feb. 27 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery.
Since its inception 21 years ago, MEDICI has raised more than $200,000 for the department. Donated funds have been used to bring visiting scholars to the campus and to purchase kilns, presses, papermaking equipment, catalogs and other amenities that contribute to the first-rate educational offerings for UNL students.
