Carson School ranked as #5 animation school in Midwest by Animation Career Review

The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film has been ranked as the #5 animation school program in the Midwest by Animation Career Review in the 2014 rankings.

The program also received a #49 ranking nationally.

Animation Career Review began publishing national and regional rankings in 2012 in response to inquiries from aspiring animators asking what the best schools were in the U.S. or a given state.

The criteria for ranking includes academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of the program and faculty, value and geographic location.

UNL Faculty to present a Holocaust Remembrance Recital

University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music faculty members Karen Becker, cello, Kate Butler, mezzo-soprano and Susan Levine Ourada, dance; with Michael Cotton, piano and UNL and SLOdance dancers will present Seed of Dream and Other Visions, A Holocaust Remembrance Recital, on Sunday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall.

Nteractions concert features campus band, live tweeting

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Campus Bands will present an evening of wind music in a concert entitled Nteractions, Thursday, May 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kimball Recital Hall, but in a switch from the norm, live tweeting will be allowed at the event.

Normally all cell phones are asked to be shut off during the performance but on this special night, tweets will be projected onto a big screen above the performers on the Kimball stage using the hashtag -- #unlbandsconcert

UNL Fine and Performing Arts Honors Day to recognize achievement

Student, faculty, staff and alumni achievement will be recognized at the annual Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Honors Day Dinner on April 26. The event is by invitation only.

The awards to be presented include seven selected by the Fine and Performing Arts Alumni Board.

Evenings of Dance awaits beginning April 24

The ninth annual Evenings of Dance, a concert of work by dance faculty, guests and selected students, will take place April 24-27 Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Lied Center's Johnny Carson Studio Theater. Tickets are $7 general admission, $5 students and seniors, at the door.

Francisco Souto's "Poetics of Recognition" opens April 18 at Kiechel Fine Art

Associate Professor of Art Francisco Souto presents an exhibition of new works titled "Poetics of Recognition" April 18-May 31 at Kiechel Fine Art in Lincoln. An opening reception will be held on Friday, April 18 from 6-9 p.m.

"Poetics of Recognition" is an exhibition structured around a sensorial awareness.

Hagstrom receives SGC’s Teaching Excellence in Printmaking Award

UNL Department of Art and Art History Alumnus Fred Hagstrom (M.F.A. 1982) received the Teaching Excellence in Printmaking Award from Southern Graphics Council at their annual international conference in March.

He also recently named the 2014 Minnesota Book Artist Award winner for his new piece titled “Passage.” This annual award, presented by Minnesota Center for Book Arts and the Minnesota Book Awards, recognizes a Minnesota book artist or book artist collaborative group for excellence of a new artistic work.

UNL Art Graduate students give public lecture on recent trip to China on April 23

Chadric Devin and Allen Morris will provide a public lecture to discuss their recent journey to Xi’an Jiaotong University in Xi’an, China. Devin and Morris were invited by the American Exchange Center, a University of Nebraska-Lincoln entity. Morris and Devin will display photographs from their stay in China, and they will discuss their interactions with the students of Xi’an Jiaotong and the university Photo Club, along with their cultural experiences.

The lecture will be Wednesday, April 23 at 4:00 in the classroom area of Woods Art Building Room 13.

MFA Thesis Exhibitions continue in the UNL Eisentrager-Howard Gallery

Seven graduating Master of Fine Arts students from the Department of Art and Art History will present their MFA Thesis Exhibitions in three exhibitions April 7-25 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's city campus. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 12:30-4:30 p.m.

The first MFA Thesis Exhibition runs April 7-11 and features the work of Aaron Sober and Crisha Yantis. A reception will be held on April 11 from 5-7 p.m. in the gallery.
