UNL Art and Anthropology Senior Receives Smithsonian Internship
Emma deVries, a University of Nebraska–Lincoln senior dual major in art and anthropology from Lincoln, Neb., has received a Smithsonian Internship to work at the National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., this summer.
“I’m really excited,” deVries said. “This was the one I really wanted because I’ve been trying to get this internship for three years now.”
DeVries will begin on June 2 and continue until Aug. 21. The internship fits perfectly with her career goal to be an exhibition designer.

UNL Graduate Jazz Composer Wins Downbeat Magazine Award
Masayoshi Ishikawa, who is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in jazz composition in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Glenn Korff School of Music, has won a 2014 Downbeat Student Music Award in Graduate Composition for Small Ensemble.
His composition, “Hotaru,” was selected as the award-winning work. He wrote the piece for the UNL Graduate Jazz Combo, and it was premiered at their concert in October 2013.

"Penumbra" by Photographer TJ Deaver at Medici Gallery
"Penumbra," a series of self-portraits created by BFA Senior and Photographer T.J. Deaver that engages the personal and cultural struggles of identifying as a LGBQT youth in modern America, is on display this week at the Department of Art and Art History's MEDICI Gallery, located on the first floor of Richards Hall.
The exhibition will have a closing reception on Friday, May 2 from 5-7 p.m. The reception and admission to the gallery are free and open to the public.

Capstone Exhibition opens May 2 in UNL's Eisentrager-Howard Gallery
The Capstone Exhibition runs May 2-9 at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall. The exhibition presents the work of this semester's graduating studio art seniors.
The exhibition represents students' most recent work, which is a culmination of their coursework and exploration in studio art in the Department of Art and Art History. Thirty-one students will present their work in a variety of mediums.

UNL Clay Club and Fine Art Photo Clubs holding their spring sales May 2-3
The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Clay Club and University of Nebraska–Lincoln Fine Art Photo Club will each be holding their spring sales May 2-3 in Richards Hall.The UNL Clay Club will hold its Spring Sale and Raffle in Richards Hall Rm. 118. Hours for the sale are Friday, May 2 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The sales will include works of art created by graduate students, undergraduate students, alumni, and faculty representing a broad range of aesthetics, techniques and concepts.

Carson School ranked as #5 animation school in Midwest by Animation Career Review
The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film has been ranked as the #5 animation school program in the Midwest by Animation Career Review in the 2014 rankings.
The program also received a #49 ranking nationally.
Animation Career Review began publishing national and regional rankings in 2012 in response to inquiries from aspiring animators asking what the best schools were in the U.S. or a given state.
The criteria for ranking includes academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of the program and faculty, value and geographic location.
