Theatrix kicks off season with 'Time Stands Still'
Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, a student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, will kick off its 2014-2015 season with the play Time Stands Still by Donald Margulies. Emma Gruhl, an undergraduate Theatre Directing and Management major, will direct. Performances are October 22, 23, and 24 at 7:30 p.m. and October 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the Lab Theatre, third floor of the Temple Building at 12th & R Streets. There will be no performance on Saturday, October 25 due to a home football game. Tickets are a flat rate of $6.View Article

Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts Ambassadors Take Recruitment to the 'Next Level'
This fall, the Undergraduate Student Ambassadors of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts will promote pride and develop awareness of the college and its academic programs.
“I am so excited to welcome 30 outstanding fine and performing arts students to the Ambassador Program. Since last year, we have quadrupled in size and this is the first year we are utilizing Ambassadors for recruitment marketing initiatives and event planning,” said Jemalyn A. Griffin, assistant director of recruiting and program director of the Hixson-Lied College's Ambassador Program.

UNL Open Studios Event is Oct. 24
Lincoln, Neb.--On Friday, Oct. 24, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln Department of Art and Art History is hosting Open Studios. Graduate students in the Department of Art and Art History will open their working studios for the evening, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.The open house will include graduate studios in Richards Hall and Woods Art Building. Work will include painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography and ceramics. In addition to graduate work, selected undergraduate pieces will be on display in Richards Hall.

'Nobody Does it Better' to honor Comine, Ross
The Mary Reipma Ross Media Arts Center is hosting "Nobody Does It Better," a tribute to Lucy Buntain Comine and a celebration of Mary Riepma Ross. The event honoring two dynamic women who have made a lasting imprint on the Ross will begin at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 10 in the Van Brunt Visitors Center.

UNL Symphonic Band opens its season Oct. 14
LINCOLN, Neb.— Join the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Symphonic Band, conducted by Tony Falcone with Graduate Teaching Assistant Conductor Chris Barnes, for its season premiere concert on October 14 at 7:30 pm in Kimball Recital Hall.
The program titled, "And Through Eternity, I’ll Sing On," focuses on works based on or derived from hymns. Works by Alfred Reed, J.S. Bach (arranged by Percy Aldridge Grainger,) Fisher Tull, Pavel Tschesnokoff, Donald Grantham and Clifton Williams will be featured.

UNL Symphony Orchestra to perform ‘Journeys in the Imagination’
LINCOLN, Neb.— The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Symphony Orchestra, in the Glenn Korff School of Music, will perform “Journeys in the Imagination” at 3 p.m., October 12 in Kimball Recital Hall.
Dr. Jeffrey McCray, bassoon, will also perform Weber’s Bassoon Concerto in F major on a program featuring Schumann’s Symphony No. 3 (“Rhenish”), Mussorgsky’s Dawn on the Moscow River and Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite (1919 version).
The performance is $5 for general admission and $3 for students/seniors.
