Johnny Carson School’s Theatrix To Continue Season With Lion In The Streets

The Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film’s student run theatre company, Theatrix will open its second production in its 2013 – 2014 season Thursday, December 5th at 7:30pm.  Performances of Lion In The Streets, written by Judith Thompson, run December 5th – 7th at 7:30pm, and December 8th at 2:00pm.

UNL's 'Candide' wins 1st place in division in National Opera Association Competition

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music and Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film’s collaborative, large-scale musical production, “Candide” was awarded first prize in Division IV of the 2012-2013 Opera Production Competition sponsored by the National Opera Association (NOA).

'Digs' Opening Night

The red carpet was rolled out for the premiere of the Johnny Carson film series second short film "Digs" at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln's Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. Students, educators, actors and production staff were on hand after the showing for an intimate Q&A with audience members. The series is the only one of its kind in the nation, providing students the opportunity to work with film professionals.

UNL seek applications for Nebraska Young Artists Awards

The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln seeks applications for the 17th annual Nebraska Young Artist awards.

The awards annually recognize 11th-grade students from Nebraska who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual art, dance, music, theatre, and film and new media. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts.

Visiting artist Jamie Burmeister will present a free public lecture on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15.

Burmeister’s “vermin.me” project has resulted in more than 520 installations of small ceramic figures, called vermin, in 22 states and 20 countries.

UNL’s University Theatre Continues 2013-2014 Season With Will Eno’s MIDDLETOWN

UNL University Theatre, Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film’s academic year main stage production program, continues its 2013-2014 season with MIDDLETOWN by Will Eno. Graduate student Joshua Waterstone directs this production in partial fulfillment for a Master of Fine Arts degree in Directing for Stage and Screen.  Performances are November 14, 15 and 20, 21, 22, 23 at 7:30 p.m. and November 17 and 24 at 2:00 p.m. in Howell Theatre, first floor of the Temple Building at 12th & R Streets.

'Memphis' cast members hold master class with dance students

Lessons learned performing in a Broadway musical were the featured attraction in a UNL dance classroom on Nov. 13.

Two cast members from the Tony award-winning musical "Memphis" led a master class with UNL students in Intermediate-Advanced Modern Dance. During the two hour long session, "Memphis" cast members Jonathan Ragsdale and Jonas Shumpert taught the students two dance combinations pulled straight from the rigorous choreography used in the musical.

"Memphis" played in two performances at the Lied Center for Performing Arts on Nov. 12-13.

UNL Art and Art History Senior has work accepted into national exhibition

Adrian Armstrong, a senior studio art major from Omaha, Neb., had three pieces accepted into the Soo Visual Arts Center’s juried exhibition “Untitled 10.”

The exhibition opens Dec. 6, 2013, and continues through Jan. 11, 2014, at the gallery, located in Minneapolis, Minn. Jurors Heid E. Erdrich and Jennifer Phelps selected 25 artists out of more than 200 applicants for the exhibition this year.

“I was ecstatic,” Armstrong said. “I wasn’t expecting to get in, so when they told me I was in, I was just jumping for joy. It was crazy.”
