Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist series begins with photographer Modica on Feb. 6
Lincoln, Neb.--Six artists will be presenting Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar lectures this spring in the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s School of Art, Art History & Design.
The School of Art, Art History & Design’s Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series brings notable artists, scholars and designers to Nebraska each semester to enhance the education of students.
Each lecture takes place at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lectures are free and open to the public.

Wesley Reist Wind Quintet forms through GKSOM class, blends, stays together
Performing music together in a quintet can be a powerful experience for its members and that can also translate to sending a powerful message to the listener.
The Wesley Reist Wind Quintet was formed a couple of years ago when several members of the quintet needed to enroll in the chamber music class at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music. The quintet now includes De Davis, flute; Alyssa Pracht, oboe; Shiana Montanari, clarinet; Jordan Redd, horn and Brock Nutter, bassoon.

South Korean pianist Mi-jung Im to present guest artist recital
LINCOLN, Neb.— South Korean pianist Mi-jung Im (DMA) will give a piano recital on Tuesday, January 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Kimball Recital Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.

Zhang wins 2019 National Young Artists Competition
Lincoln, Neb.--Michelle Yin Zhang, a doctoral piano student in the Glenn Korff School of Music, has won the 2019 National Young Artists Competition in the college piano division and will perform Rachmaninoff’s Third Piano Concerto with the Coeur D’Alene Symphony in Idaho this coming March.
Winners from each of the five categories (high school instrumental, college strings, college piano, college winds/percussion and vocals) will perform as soloists with the Coeur d’Alene Symphony on March 8 and 9, 2019.

Two composition alums commissioned for new works for N150 celebration
Lincoln, Neb.--Two alumni from the Glenn Korff School of Music’s composition program have been commissioned to write new works for “A Celebration of Music and Milestone, N150” on Feb. 15 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.
More than 175 artists will unite for an evening of live performance and multimedia entertainment celebrating the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s 150th anniversary.
Garrett Hope (D.M.A. 2011) and David von Kampen (B.M. 2010; M.M. 2011) have each been commissioned for a new work for the event.

A celebration 150 years in the making
Lincoln, Neb.--On Charter Day, Feb. 15, 2019, the University of Nebraska–Lincoln will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a monumental evening of live performance and multimedia entertainment titled, “Charter Day Celebration: Music and Milestones.” At this special event, host Jeff Zeleny, University of Nebraska alumnus, native Nebraskan and Senior White House Correspondent for CNN, will guide the audience through some of the University’s major accomplishments.

Barnes, Brooklyn Rider record CD featuring the chamber music of Philip Glass
Lincoln, Neb.--Marguerite Scribante Professor of Piano Paul Barnes traveled to New York City over the winter break to record a new CD featuring the chamber music of Philip Glass for Orange Mountain Music with the quartet Brooklyn Rider that includes Glass’s newest Piano Quintet, “Annunciation.”

Redd captures win at regional round of MTNA
LINCOLN, Neb.— Glenn Korff School of Music graduate student Jordan Redd, Horn, was recently named the winner in the West Central Division MTNA Competition "Young Artist Performance."
There are three stages to the competition -- the state round, regional round, and the national round. The regional round this year was done by video submission. This year Redd played selections from “Episodes” by James Naigus, “Laudatio” by Bernhard Krol, and the Franz Strauss Horn Concerto Op. 8.

After division win, Amore String Quartet sets sights on nationals
LINCOLN, Neb.— The Amore String Quartet, which includes undergrads Claudia Holm, An Tran, Travis Taylor and Riley Beranek of the Glenn Korff School of Music, was recently named the winner in the West Central Division MTNA Competition “Chamber Music String”.
“I’m so excited to be competing at MTNA Nationals with three incredible friends and musicians,” Holm said. “Also, it’s really cool to be representing the chamber/string program at GKSOM at a national level.”
