Theatrix presents 'Speech & Debate'
Lincoln, Neb.--Theatrix, the student-run theatre company within the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, continues its 2018-2019 season with Speech & Debate, written by Stephen Karam and directed by University of Nebraska student, Ethan Greenlee.
Performances are 7:30 p.m. Feb. 28 and March 1-2 and 2 p.m. on March 3. All performances take place in the Lab Theatre in the Temple Building at 12th and R Streets. Speech & Debate contains mature content that may not be suitable for all audiences.

Art historian Mazow presents next Hixson-Lied Visiting Scholar Lecture on “Edward Hopper’s ‘Hotel Consciousness’”
Lincoln, Neb.—Art Historian Leo G. Mazow will present the next Hixson-Lied Visiting Scholar Lecture on Wednesday, March 13 at 5:30 p.m. in the Sheldon Museum of Art’s auditorium. The lecture is free and open to the public.
Mazow will be discussing “Edward Hopper’s ‘Hotel Consciousness.’” He will consider Edward Hopper’s iconic painting “Room in New York,” which is owned by the Sheldon, alongside his commercial work for hotel trade journals.
His book, “Hopper’s Hotels,” explores the hotel, motel and boarding house subjects of Hopper’s body of work.

Moran Woodwind Quintet to perform ‘Modern American Masterworks’
LINCOLN, Neb.— On Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music’s Kimball Recital Hall, the Moran Woodwind Quintet presents a recital titled “Modern American Masterworks”, with works by American composers Alec Wilder, Amanda Harberg, and John Steinmetz. Steinmetz’s work, titled What’s Going On, written in 2018, explores layering of simple musical lines, based on the melodic interval of a third.

Wristen named the Outstanding Music Alumna for 2019 by Lubbock Christian University
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Glenn Korff School of Music Associate Professor of Piano and Piano Pedagogy Brenda Wristen, Ph.D., was recently named the Outstanding Music Alumna for 2019 by Lubbock Christian University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music degree.

UNL Jazz Ensembles prep for upcoming performance, webcast

UNL Wind Ensemble performs ‘Imaginary Ballet’, features Oshiro
LINCOLN, Neb.— Join the Wind Ensemble, conducted by Prof. Tony Falcone, for their program titled, Imaginary Ballet on Wednesday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. The concert features Dreamcatcher by Walter Mays and the Frank Pappajohn transcription of Percy Aldridge Grainger’s ambitious large-scale work, The Warriors. Also, Daniel Oshiro will perform the Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Orchestra by Ingolf Dahl as winner of the UNL Concerto Competition.
