Korff School’s opera program presents “The Return of Ulysses”

Lincoln, Neb.--The Glenn Korff School of Music’s opera program presents “The Return of Ulysses.” Performances are Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. in Kimball Recital Hall. This new adaptation of the work will be sung in English.

A pre-performance talk will be held 45 minutes before curtain of each performance in the lower lobby of Kimball.

Art historian Fontana presents next Hixson-Lied Visiting Scholar Lecture Oct. 31

Lincoln, Neb.—Art historian Jeff Fontana will present the next Hixson-Lied Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 5:30 p.m. in Richards Hall Rm. 15. The lecture is free and open to the public. His title is "George B. Bridgman's Life Drawing Instruction: Bringing Classical Figures into the Modern World."

Come ‘drift’ away with the Flyover New Music Series

LINCOLN, Neb.— “Drifting” is the latest performance title for the Flyover Music Series that will take place on Monday, November 5 at 7:30 p.m. in Westbrook Recital Hall. 

The Flyover New Music Series is the new music series from the composition studio at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Glenn Korff School of Music. The series is administered and overseen by composition faculty and students.

Moran Woodwind Quintet to premiere new Steinmetz composition ‘All the Difference’

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Moran Woodwind Quintet’s upcoming recital will be at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, November 4 in Westbrook Recital Hall, and will feature the premiere of a new woodwind quintet by California bassoonist and composer, John Steinmetz, titled, All the Difference. The work was commissioned by the Glenn Korff School of Music at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Cast in four movements, the piece explores and exploits the variety of sounds available to a woodwind quintet.

Nebraska Rep presents Bertolt Brecht's classic 'Mother Courage'

Lincoln, Neb.--The Nebraska Repertory Theatre, Nebraska’s Actors’ Equity Association professional regional theatre, continues its 50th Anniversary year season Nov. 7-8 with two preview performances of a new adaptation of the classic "Mother Courage" by Bertolt Brecht, with music by Scott Lamps, book and lyrics by Andy Park, from the translation by William Grange. Opening night of this world premiere is Friday, Nov. 9 with additional performances November 12-16 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 11 & 18 at 2 p.m. at the Temple Building, 12th & R streets.

Hanrahan, guest artist Blom will have a single performance

LINCOLN, Neb.— Glenn Korff School of Music’s Kevin Hanrahan and guest artist Diana Blom, along with friends, will have a single performance on Sunday, February 3 in Kimball Recital Hall at 3 p.m. The original schedule had an additional performance on February 17 in the Sheldon Museum of Art but that performance has been canceled.

Applications now open for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Emerging Media Arts, faculty positions

Lincoln, Neb.--Applications are now open for the new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Emerging Media Arts at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s new Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts, which opens Fall 2019. New faculty positions are also open for applications.

“We are searching for future creative leaders,” said Megan Elliott, founding director of the Johnny Carson Center for Emerging Media Arts. “The new Bachelor of Fine Arts in Emerging Media Arts has been intentionally designed to robot-proof students for a future of life-long learning and relentless change.”

Westminster Church to host Nebraska Trombone Ensemble performance

LINCOLN, Neb.— The Nebraska Trombone Ensemble will perform works by composers ranging from Morten Lauridsen to Frank Zappa and Derek Bourgeois at its October 29 performance at Westminster Presbyterian Church (2110 Sheridan Blvd. in Lincoln) beginning at 7 p.m. The Nebraska Trombone Ensemble is comprised of trombone students at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The ensemble performs both original compositions and transcriptions, some of them by members of the ensemble.
