Husman splits time between dance and advertising
Hannah Husman, a senior from Omaha, decided she wanted to be a dance major while watching the Alvin Ailey Dance Company in the Spring of 2011.
Husman began her time at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln as a print journalism major. This May she will be graduating with double majors in dance and advertising.
“I just couldn’t ever choose one over the other,” Husman said. “I figured I’m pretty used to having a busy schedule.”

Stewart receives Fulbright to Germany in 2014
Professor of Art History Alison Stewart has received a Fulbright Senior Lecturing/Research award to teach and complete research at the University of Trier in Germany from April to July 2014.

Final MFA Thesis opens April 15
Graduate students Sam Berner, Gregory Scott Cook and Jacob Francois in the UNL Department of Art and Art History will present their MFA Thesis Exhibitions April 15-19 in the Eisentrager-Howard Gallery in Richards Hall.
Gallery hours are Monday-Friday, 12:30-4:30 p.m. A closing reception will be held on Friday, April 19 from 5-7 p.m. in the Gallery.

Fritz receives photography Imagemaker Award
University of Nebraska–Lincoln Professor of Photography Dana Fritz received the Society for Photographic Education’s Imagemaker Award at their March 7-10 conference in Chicago.
The award goes to an artist presenting for the first time as an imagemaker at the SPE national conference, who shows exceptional promise and outstanding achievement, evidenced by a high ranking by the peer review panel.

Ceramics grad student organizes Art Block April 5
Sam Berner, a third-year ceramics graduate student in the Department of Art and Art History, began his plans with a site-oriented sculptural space called “Greenroom.” The project has since grown exponentially to Art Block, a special First Friday art event that he calls “a giant interactive art event.”

Souto invited for residency at Wichita State
University of Nebraska–Lincoln Associate Professor of Art Francisco Souto has been invited to serve as the inaugural Seward Memorial Guest Artist at Wichita State University (WSU). He will be in residence from April 1-7.
The Seward Memorial Guest Artist program invites a nationally and internationally recognized artist to spend a week as an artist-in-residence, working with students and faculty in the creation of a limited edition fine art print.

Thallas wins Nebraska Jazz Orchestra competition
Lincoln, Neb. - Luke Thallas, a sophomore tenor trombonist from Council Bluffs, Iowa, majoring in music education, has won the 2013 Nebraska Jazz Orchestra Young Jazz Artist Competition. He will perform with the Nebraska Jazz Orchestra on Tuesday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Cornhusker Marriott, 333 S 13th St. in Lincoln.

New Artists Festival closes out Theatrix season
Lincoln, Neb. – Completing the season for Theatrix, the student-operated theatre organization at the Johnny Carson School of Theatre and Film, is the annual New Artists Festival 2013. This year NAF is comprised of three 20-minute scripts and one full-length play.
